Publisher's summary

Ripped from today's headlines, Brian Haig's new novel finds Army lawyer Sean Drummond caught between duty to Washington's elite and the soldiers in Iraq.

Dispatched to investigate the suicide of one of D.C.'s most influential defense officials, an ardent, early supporter of the war in Iraq, Drummond and his female partner find themselves in the middle of a tug-of-war between Washington's most influential power brokers and his own personal allegiance to the soldiers dying overseas. What he uncovers are the secrets that led to the war, secrets that, once exposed, would destroy public support and undermine the presidency. Now Drummond faces the greatest moral quandary of his life: what is the true meaning of patriotism?

Critic reviews

"A marvelously twisted plot and marvelously twisted characters help along a tale in which Drummond actually gets to act a little human. Great entertainment; highly recommended." ( Library Journal)

Loved it

I loved this one!! While it took me a while to get used to a new reader, once I did , I was fine. I found the topic very timely and gave a interesting spin to current events (albeit fiction - I hope) . Loved the depth of the female character and hope the ending is foreshadowing a sequel.

Another Good Haig Novel

I enjoyed Man in the Middle. While it was long and the plot at times was complex the book kept me listening and engaged. I also felt like the narrator was great. No issues here. Get this one. You won't be disappointed.

A little boring

What happened to Scott brick. I found the narrator hard to follow and lost interest
The story at the end finally came together but not my favorite Brian Haig for sure

Narrators

OK, another switch in narrators. I was disappointed this time in the narration. He did not follow the pattern of the other narrators. I don't think he does women very well and, in particular, he made Phyllis sound like an old hag. While she's testy, I did not picture her an "old hag" based on the prior narrators.

Haig at his best

I enjoyed reading "Secret Sanction" a few years ago and I enjoyed it. But now, I see that Brian Haig has gotten better and better and has written a masterpiece with "Man in the Middle."

This novel has everything: action, mystery, sex, humor. Plus: it contains debate on US activities in Iraq with different characters having different viewpoints on moral issues.

The overall result was superb. I highly recommend this novel and I plan to read more by the author.

Loving Brian Haig

It is awesome when I find another author to enjoy, and none of Brian Haig's books have failed me yet. He is kind of a cross between Nelson DeMille and Scott Turrow.

I️ am addicted to this series!

This series is one of the best I️ have ever gotten hooked on. They are funny, intriguing and never predictable. The sarcasm that comes from the character, Sean, is actually quite realistic to how most people would think. It’s a hoot. The narration is always good! Keep writing Mr Haig.

Man in the Middle

I think the narrator has asthma,,, I could hear WAY too much breath sounds.

Man in the Middle

Brian Haig is a writer who deserves more recognition than he gets. His main recurring character, Sean Drummond, has a sharp tongue and a wit to match. The plots keep you guessing and have more twists and turns than a pretzel. If you like mysteries, military action / adventure, conspiracies, spies, and legal drama, you will like Man in the Middle and the other works by this author.

Narration does a HUGE disservice to Haig's fiction

I have read all of Brian Haig's fiction, generally getting them in hard cover, not wanting to wait for the paperback. Additionally, I rarely if ever re-read any book, but I have listened to a couple of Haig's book in audio format while running along the Mississippi River. I agree with the other listeners who have identified this reader as one of the worst. I would prefer to listen to computer-generated readings or listen to a touch-tone phone answering monologue. So, don't skip this last book by Brian Haig....simply get in paper.
