Publisher's Summary

It's almost Labor Day, and the end of summer could mean the end of someone's life in this exciting sequel to Chris Grabenstein's Tilt-a-Whirl.

Young Danny Boyle, the part-time summer cop "down the shore" in Sea Haven, New Jersey, gets taken on a wild ride when he and his longtime beach buddies become the unwitting targets of a madman's twisted scheme for revenge. Fortunately, John Ceepak, the cop with a soldier's unshakable code of honor, stays at Danny's side to help him negotiate the quick twists and turns that threaten to destroy his life, his friends, and everything about the world he loves.

Whipping from the boardwalk to the beach and back again, Mad Mouse keeps zigging and zagging at a breakneck pace, all the way to the surprising finish.

Don't miss other adventures featuring Sea Haven's finest, including the first book in the series, Tilt-a-Whirl, and the third, Whack-a-Mole.

I'm a crippeled old warrior with difficulty typing/writing etc. I used to love reading books, and have read many. I now love audio books.

    "Whack a Mole"

Laughed my butt off while at the same time being strung along by the Author's, Chris Grabenstein, plot at a crisp pace. The book is so entertaining that I may be forced to visit the New Jersey coast line in summer just to get the real flavor of the book. I am now drawn into the lives of the characters and can't wait for the next book to come out. Thank you Chris Grabenstein.

    "Fun Listening"

A great follow-up book to Tilt-A-Whirl. Easy listening with fun characters. I look forward to listening to Whack-A-Mole. You can also check out his website for a map of Sea Haven.

"This book will crack you up!"

Mad Mouse has just the right blending of humor, pathos, and suspense. The author paints vivid images of the characters and the spaces they inhabit - you just feel like you are there on the over-commercialized New Jersey beach, smelling the smells and noticing the odd things that pop up in that culture. One minute you are laughing at something outrageous or familiar, the next moment your are hearing bullets whiz by. Be sure to start with the first book in this series, Tilt-a-Whirl, because the sequencing enhances your appreciation of the characters.

    "Very Enjoyable!"

I love the choice of narrator for these books. This one is even better than Tilt-a-whirl. This is a great summer beach listen. I enjoyed the story and characters very much. You feel like you are driving around a beach town being a spectator watching the characters in action. Satisfying ending too.

I love the BBC and British mysteries, but my tastes are very eclectic. I live with my husband and menagerie of rescued cats and dogs.

    "Humor and Suspense Well Blended"

This book blended humor and suspense very successfully. The humor never seemed out of place, and it did not diminish the suspense in any way. I have found in many humorous mystery novels, the focus is too much on the humor for the story to be very suspenseful. That is not the case in this book. I found myself looking for any opportunity I could find to listen so that I could find out what was happening next. The characters are all well-drawn, and Grabenstein avoids stereotypes most of the time. Even some of the more minor characters were well fleshed out.

The most impressive aspect of this book, however, was the performance of Jeff Woodman as he read the book. He made every character very distinct and his voicing of Ceepak was brilliant. My first impression of the character was exactly how Woodman voiced him. I envisioned Patrick Warburton in that role should the series ever be filmed, and I could imagine that Warburton was reading the Ceepak dialog. (If you watched The Tick, you know what I mean.)

I recommended this book to my husband who usually listens to a different type of book, and within the first 20 minutes, he was captured, too.

"A WILD RIDE OF A READ"

Incredible. Jeff Woodman does an amazing job with this incredibly fun and thrilling story. When he gets to the creepy parts, watch out -- your skin will start crawling! MAD MOUSE made my runs around Central Park a real roller coaster ride.

"One step up from the Hardy Boys"

Despite one "Roger that" too many from the book's main protagonist, I enjoyed this listen. When I purchased the book I didn't realize that it was written for a teen audience. Then again, maybe it wasn't, but that's the way it turned out. It was a sale book and since my wife grew up in the Jersey Shore setting, I thought it was worth the risk. Simple characters, a simple though somewhat contrived plot and simple dialogue make for a relaxed listen. A few years back I reread one of my Hardy Boys books to see what interested me back in my pre-teen years. One reread was enough to satisfy my nostalgia need. If you wonder what the Hardy Boys might be like dropping "F" bombs, then give this book a try. And if you're 16 years old, this author and his books are for you.

    "Great story and narration"
    Any additional comments?

As a kid I spent most of my summers at the Jersey shore. This is a trip down memory lane for me, fortunately minus the murders. The Ceepak books are great mysteries with terrific characters and one of the best audiobook narrators I have ever listened to. The added bonus is the author's attention to detail about NJ and the Jersey shore.

    "Did Not Disappoint!"

There is always the concern that a book you're looking forward to reading/listening to just won't live up to your expectations. When I decided to continue this series when heading to the gym, I was hoping it would keep me entertained for seventy long, boring walking laps around the track. Not to worry--Danny Boyle and John Ceepak to the rescue!

This is a light mystery, but very well written with some humorous, contrasting characters. The narrator, young Danny Boyle, has a lot to learn about police work--and life. And the hero of the series, John Ceepak, is a returning veteran, who lives by a code that is sadly disappearing in today's world. Crimes are solved, lessons are learned, and order is restored to Sea Haven!

Mad Mouse's narrator, Jeff Woodman, does a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. I was happy to see he is the one and only narrator for this series. I'm already looking forward to installment #3--
