Publisher's summary

Sam and Remi Fargo, heroes of Spartan Gold, return in this extraordinary new adventure from the number-one New York Times- bestselling author. With Spartan Gold, a daring thriller that Publishers Weekly proclaimed "solidly in the Cussler tradition, [and] sure to please new fans and old," Clive Cussler introduced husband-and-wife treasure-hunting team Sam and Remi Fargo. In their electrifying new adventure, the Fargos make a startling discovery that others would kill to keep hidden....

While scuba diving in Tanzania, Sam and Remi Fargo come upon a relic belonging to a long-lost Confederate ship. An anomaly about the relic sets them off chasing a mystery-but unknown to them, a much more powerful force is engaged in the same chase. Mexico's ruling party, the ultranationalist Mexica Tenochca, is intent on finding that artifact as well, because it contains a secret that could destroy the party utterly.

Through Tanzania and Zanzibar, into the rainforests of Madagascar, and across the Indian Ocean to Indonesia and the legendary site of the 1883 Krakatoa explosion, the Fargos and their ruthless opponents pursue the hunt-but only one can win. And the penalty for failure is death.

Filled with the dazzling suspense and breathtaking action that are Cussler's trademarks, Lost Empire is a stunning new novel from the grand master of adventure.

Cussler delivers

Great story. I love believable fiction. Typical Cussler action with a far out but believable plot.

love the series

yet again I find the Fargo series entertaining in every way. I love the banter between husband and wife. Sam's Fierce protecting us of his wife and they're joined Love Of The Hunt The Thrill and the excitement of just finding and learning new history

Another Great Adventure

This is another great adventure novel featuring Sam and Remi Fargo, the intrepid diving, caving, and climbing treasure hunters. Of course I loved it and of course it made my runs so much better. This one was actually better than the first in this series. This time the mystery focuses on the Aztecs, a long-lost Confederate ship, and an American in Africa who may have been mad or may have found something amazing. The bad guys are truly bad and of course they get their comeuppance in the end. I'm a simple girl. Give me an adventure, a chase, bad guys, good guys, a lost treasure, and a historical mystery and I'm happy.

Beleivable and Fun

What did you love best about Lost Empire?

The discovery of intertwining facts and scattered puzzle pieces. I love a mystery that is at the same time tied to history, even if it is a bit of fiction.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course, the Fargos!

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He has a strong voice and a great voice for separating the characters. These books have at their heart the protagonist and the antagonist seeking the same objective while at the same time being read by a man who can help you despise the villain and cheer for the heroes. He is not as good with the female voices, but you still can tell the difference.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not as much as the first one. It was funny at times and I did chuckle a few times out loud. This one was a bit more fun and captivating than emotional.

Any additional comments?

I like archeology and the "Indian Jones" feel is something I enjoy. Of course these books are a bit far fetched when it comes to the type of situations the main characters find themselves, but still it makes for a fun and "FICTIONAL" read. Just enjoy!

Formulaic, but an exciting story

This is my 2nd Fargo book, and the 2nd in the series. And. so far, I like them. Yes, it is formulaic... treasure hunters find something that villain wants/needs; danger and death defying feats by treasure hunters abounds. But... the Fargos are likable characters and I'm willing to suspend disbelief to travel along with them. There is a lot of history and science information to both Fargo books that I've read, which is fine with me in that it helps me understand the who/what/where/how of the plot. The action is sprinkled throughout the story, and can be over the top - but it works, with only one or two eye rolls from me. The loose ends are tied up nicely, and my enjoyment meter is satisfied. The dialogue between characters seems genuine, not forced nor shallow.
Scott Brick does an excellent job with narration. I haven't looked, but hope he continues through the series.
I will continue with the 3rd book, but not immediately... a little bit of the Fargos does tend to go a long way. I think I would easily become burnt out on their escapades if I listened to them back to back...
