Publisher's summary

They're smart, sexy, and supernatural: they're the men and women of the Otherworld - a realm of witches, ghosts, and werewolves who live unseen among us. Only now a reckless killer has torn down the wall, trapping one very human woman in the supernatural cross fire.

Robyn Peltier moved to Los Angeles after her young husband's sudden death. Though she's still grieving, the challenges of her new life as the PR consultant to Portia Kane - the world's most famous celebutante wannabe - can sometimes be amusing, even distracting. But when her client is gunned down in a nightclub, Robyn is suddenly on the run as the prime suspect in the murder. And as more bodies pile up around her, it seems like only Hope Adams, Robyn's best friend, and Hope's somewhat spooky boyfriend Karl are on Robyn's side. But it's not the police Hope is worried about, and the only way Hope can keep her friend alive is by letting her enter a world she's safer knowing nothing about.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

New Blood - Excellent Plot

We meet Hope Adams in this book. Now Hope is a brand new character in the series and plays the main character. She has a pension for Chaos. Through Hope we learn a lot more about Karl Marsden who appeared in earlier books in not so flattering ways. In this work, he make the full transition from bad guy to good guy.

This series is excellent as the plots vary and keep interest. I like the universe of characters. Armstrong sticks to her theme, premise and does an excellent job of putting a plot around them. I leave it to you to figure out what they are. Jen Taylor's narration is first rate.

It is a excellent next read.

Overall it was great

Would you consider the audio edition of Living with the Dead to be better than the print version?

I think both are very good.

What did you like best about this story?

This story was in third person. Usually women of the otherworld are first person experience

What three words best describe Jen Taylor’s voice?

The narrator's voice is very versatile.

Any additional comments?

With the exception of messing up one of the character's names, the narrator was very good. I don't blame her. I blame the director. This was book nine, No Humans Involved had already been printed.

Hit or miss

I love the Kelly Armstrong books and I have listened to all of them on Audiobook so far after seeing the show "Biten". I wasn't totally happy with this book reading by Jen Taylor. My biggest complaint is the pronunciation of Jamie Vegas' name. ALL of the previous Audiobooks pronounce it the American form of Jamie and to hear it pronounced with a Spanish J, I was initially worried that Jeremy was in a relationship with a new woman and I totally missed it. I think if your going to jump in around book 9 you should stay consistent with what previous speakers have called a character.

Wrong voices for characters

The narrator was good except for her voice choice. Robyn sounded normal, Hope, the chaotic half demon sounded like a little girl, Karl's was raspy and harsh like a thug, not a sophisticated thief. The werewolf thug, Grant, sounded like a sophisticated Aussie. She pronounces Jaime's name as the spanish "hai-meh", which doesn't make sense because her background is Irish and her mother is racist against Hispanics, which is why she was furious to find out the stage last name she chose for Jaime, 'Vegas' is Hispanic.

Narrator...

It was hard to follow this novel in the series because the narrator made me want to stop listening. I couldn’t get over her voice. Kelley Armstrong always writes such amazing stories. I wish they could’ve kept the narrator from Bitten or Stolen.

Loved the book

I enjoyed the book but didn't care for the narrator who didn't pronounce names properly. I enjoyed more of Hope and Carl.

Great story, narrator could be better

I really liked this book. I found the storyline fascinating even though it didn't follow the same format as earlier books in the series. The only thing that bothered me was the narrator. First, it was a different narrator than earlier books so the voices were different than what I was used to. Second, her male voices were a bit weird. Third, I'm from Philly and her attempt at a Philly accent was terrible-not to mention Hope is supposed to be a society girl and the voice lacked sophistication or confidence. All that being said, the narration wasn't so bad as to ruin the story. Definitely worth a listen, but I hope Book 10 is better.

loved the story

i really love all of these stories. this one like the others that deal with silenced firearms, demonstrates kelley's lack of knowledge of firearms at least when she wrote them. its clear her only experience with them comes from Hollywood. which is fine for most, especially an author from canada where opportunities to use silenced firearms in real life would be more limited than the US. But that has been my only issue with the last 3 books. the romance and writing have been great. the characters compelling and i can't wait each month for my next credit to listen to the next one.
