No regrets, Dean Koontz is always a good read...

I had to downgrade the performance. Early in the book, the Guardian had a faintly speckled American accent. It was intriguing. Later in the book his accent becomes a gutteral parody of a Nazi German. Fake accents rarely improve my perception of a novel. Var ist da chilt? Gah! Drove me crazy. The worst was the parody of a British accent for Winston Churchill. Abysmal. Enough on the performance. The story itself had a few logic errors (maybe more than a few but I got bored trying to ferret them out). I will grant that writing a time travel book where you can only go forward but not back and still stay in a present is in itself a difficult plot twist, so I would have granted 4.5 stars for a great effort to challenge the tired time travel thesis. That said, in the end Koontz broke the timeline anyway, and as a result the end of the book was no longer in the time line where I reside. Unconscionable abuse of literary license... sorry... minus a half star.

I Guess All Kids Lisp

Jeeth Dean Koonth...theriouthly..thith ith not how kidth thpeak. Theek out better narratorth

What is up with terrible character narration for kids? Chose this book hot off Kontz's "From the Corner of His Eye." I really liked that book, but the young boy child prodigy's lisp that the narrator decided to give him (even though Koontz didn't write him like that) nearly ruined the book for me.

Now in this book... and a totally different narrator is also voicing an important child character with a lisp when he's young. Wtf... why??? Is this how narrators think that all kids talk? It's very distracting. I get the feeling that none of these narrators have ever been around children.
It's like these otherwise very good narrators who do good work have absolutely no understanding of how to narrate children's voices. Frustrating.

Last comment on this narrator. He's good, but nothing special. Many of his voices sound the same. And I really don't care for how he voices the women and kids. He seems only to have variety when it comes to male characters.

The story is somewhere between good and really good, I guess. If I'd read it in 88, I'd probably be far more impressed. But, reading it in 2019... I've read and watched the time travel idea many times, and it's been done better.

DAMN!!!

I purchased this book because of the sample I’d heard earlier, and I was sucked in and fell down the rabbit hole.

I was scared of the next move or action, then I’d be like whaaa.... did he just.......okay, then this other thing happened, you know what I mean, right ..?..

I enjoyed this book for the following reasons, 1)it shocked and scared me both at once 2) I was all warm and cuddly 3) I was repulsed 4) I was darn P-O’d and finally 6) happy but confused. I’m going to give it 4.9, in my opinion. I think this is a very interesting read.

This book has it all!

This book has it all: from a romance theme, to a mystery, to time travel, paradox theory, murder, sexual predator, Nazis, toads, lighting (lots of it), science, car chases, action scenes, science, guns... etc. My first Dean Koontz novel I believe, and I was captivated. How did this story even happen? I really enjoyed the time travel aspect of it, and the childhood of strife. I was wondering the entire time how it would all unfold. Any other ending and I would have been livid. Damn this was a fun ride... I mean read. But literally while listening to this book, I was envisioning the car chase, the shoot out in the desert, the house being pelted by bullets, this lovely woman who had turned into a Ripley from Alien. And of course the tragic childhood... it was so vivid. So exciting. Much fun. Too lightning! Doge!
It had me engrossed from the very beginning to the end. I highly recommend it. Wait, are all Dean Koontz's books this effing awesome!? Well I guess I need to read more.

I personally thought the narrator did a great job. And It didn't take away from the book.
