Lightning

Laura Shane is a fighter. From the moment she was born, she has had to face many obstacles, and she has faced them with strength and courage.
Through some of the harder times in her life, her “guardian” Stefan has been there to save her. She learned to be tough and save herself too.
She developed very close and loving relationships with only a handful of people throughout the book. I think that is what I enjoyed the most. These people became so real to me. When I wasn’t listening or reading the book, I was thinking about what would happen next. I love books like this.
Christopher Lane is a perfect narrator. He made this great book even better.

His and Hers

The first half of Lightning was very engaging for me, while my husband enjoyed the second half much more. Makes perfect sense; the first half delves into character development and relationships, while the second half has a distinctly action-movie vibe. Excellent unfolding of key plot points and characters; things stay fresh and tense because not everything ends “happily ever after.”

Koontz classic

Read this book years back and am working my way thru his audible books. Enjoyed this one greatly. Good narration good story.

A good read

This was a good mystery. I got a little lost in the time sequences but not very and not enough for me to move on to something else. The reader was good too. This one should not disappoint.

Southern California is not In The South

What did you like best about Lightning? What did you like least?

The story was great! The narrator voices almost every non-primary character with a southern drawl. He seems not to understand that Southern California is not in The South. Having grown up in the area in the story I found this to be VERY annoying.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, my teenage son (who makes it a policy to not like anything) was even drawn into the plot while listening in the car and we ended up listening to the rest of the book together. I had recently read Stephen King's 11/22/63 I found Lighting to be a more satisfying story.

Would you be willing to try another one of Christopher Lane’s performances?

Maybe, if it wasn't set in my hometown.

Was Lightning worth the listening time?

Absolutely! Even though I was frequently lecturing the narrator about geography.

Any additional comments?

I grew up in Southern California and got a kick out of how many locations in the book are places I know well, even down to the street names. I am sure that this contributed to my annoyance with the narrator and his tendency to talk southern.

Great book for Audio

Would you consider the audio edition of Lightning to be better than the print version?

I loved the story and found it interesting and suspenseful. I also think it was a good book for audio because there was a limited cast of characters and scenes so it was easy to follow without the ability to go back a couple of pages.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Very suspenseful and full of surprises that I didn't see coming.

What does Christopher Lane bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was very good about defining the characters with a different voice or accent. It was fun to hear him talk like a teenage girl.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, if I had the time!

Best Koontz book yet

I loved the dogs relationship with the couple. I loved the narrator. I loved the subject of good and evil in genetic modification. It was a good listen, I didn't want to put it down

story isn't mind spinning. pretty straight forward, but you like the characters. Long story, and enjoyable.

This book really started out with a bang, and I was turning pages quickly. Midway into the book it seem to drag on a little, but perhaps that is because I was listening to audio and not reading at my own pace. Good character development, steady plot.

Superb narration! Great story! Very enjoyable!

Excellent performance by Christopher Lane! Each character had SO much personality, I had to keep reminding myself that they were all being voiced by the same person. I highly recommend this one!
