A really good read

This was a good story that kept you on your toes. I liked the fact that I was surprised at the direction the story went. What an imagination. An excellent story teller.

I found the narrator good and would recommend this book.

Not what I expected

Love the story. I always appreciate when a story pulls a twist off that you don’t see coming. It was very engaging and thrilling going places I definitely didn’t think it would. Good characters as well with two very strong females. Also very well voice acted.

This is 1980s Koontz, so..

..listening to this can be a bit like being dragged out shopping with a person who fanatically insists on spending hours in every area of a shop meticulously pouring over every piece of merchandise, buying obsessively, trying on 34 pair of shoes and then deciding to buy the first pair they tried until you're ready scream "GET ON WITH IT, ALREADY!", BUT I confess I understood this before purchasing this audiobook on sale. Lest we imagine readers settled for less quality in the 80s, this is patently untrue. There is a great deal of mindless crap being churned out now, making best seller lists, being "written" and pushed by celebs, etc. Koontz often labored overly hard trying to create a constant sense of wonder in his early books. He expresses this yearning succinctly in the main character of the author. This for me makes "Lightning" worthwhile. The narration is quite good, with one hilarious exception. I'll just say it's British and leave it at that.

Amazed!

I've always loved reading because it is a magical escape. Getting older, I haven't been able to read as much as I like (I dont have 2 or 3 days to hide away and climb into a book as in the days of yore.) This book in particular has kept me on the edge of my seat from practically the very first page every single time I've read it (at least 5x) so I thought it would be perfect to my first audio book. I wasn't sure if I would like a "story telling" rather than reading it myself, but I was amazed. The narrator did an excellent job with voicing and differentiating the characters. And how awesome to hear a story while I work. Bravo! 😍. I cannot wait to listen to my next book.

really enjoyed

Really enjoyed I really like that it wasn't too gory it wasn't too bloody and there was more story to it I really wished Laura's husband wouldn't have died but I really enjoyed the book and I can't wait to read many more Dean Kuntz books
