Publisher's summary

David Baldacci brings back Sean King and Michelle Maxwell - former Secret Service agents turned private investigators, featured in the hit TNT TV series King & Maxwell - in their most surprising, personal, and dangerous case ever....

It seems at first like a simple, tragic story. Tyler Wingo, a teenage boy, learns the awful news that his father, a soldier, was killed in action in Afghanistan. Then the extraordinary happens: Tyler receives a communication from his father...after his supposed death.

Tyler hires Sean and Michelle to solve the mystery surrounding his father. But their investigation quickly leads to deeper, more troubling questions. Could Tyler's father really still be alive? What was his true mission? Could Tyler be the next target?

Sean and Michelle soon realize that they've stumbled on to something bigger and more treacherous than anyone could have imagined. And as their hunt for the truth leads them relentlessly to the highest levels of power and to uncovering the most clandestine of secrets, Sean and Michelle are determined to help and protect Tyler - though they may pay for it with their lives.

A LITTLE MORE FUN

What made the experience of listening to King and Maxwell the most enjoyable?

Now that the television series has come out, it was fun to equate these characters and their personas to the faces that we have on our television. I especially enjoy hearing the Edgar character and visualizing Ryan Hurst.

What did you like best about this story?

Mr. Baldacci never fails to spin an awesome web throughout the story. There is rarely, if ever any lull in the story. The characters are familiar, but continue to develop, leaving us always wanting a bit more, and always wondering "what's next" for them.

Have you listened to any of Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Mr. McLarty is simply the finest at this craft. After Tom Bodette, Mr. McLarty may be one of America's very finest minstrels. I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the two-voice (male/female) approach. Ms. Cassidy is stellar as well. However, at times when there are two female characters conversing, the voices get a bit confused for a moment or two.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The descriptors during the underwater scene were so strong, that I actually became a bit claustrophobic.

Any additional comments?

Keep 'em coming Mr. Baldacci. Who needs Lumisoty when we have you to exercise not only our mind, but our very soul.

Kept us guessing. Makes for an enjoyable road trip. Chose these voices for another of our favorite authors book.

A Thrilling Mystery

The client is a teen in search for answers about his father’s disappearance and King and Maxwell moved mountains to get them for him. It was an exciting story with surprising twist and unpredictable events. The narrator did an excellent job of giving each character a distinct voice so that it was easy to tell who was speaking. It was a great read.

Annnd... They're Back!

I love most everything Baldacci, but I especially love Oliver Stone, Michelle Maxwell, and Shawn King. Since we seem to be in a Camel Club drought, I have resigned myself to enjoying the last couple K&M installments. This more recent one does not disappoint.

The story is classic K&M fare; starting off quickly but running headlong in all directions to a climax you will never see coming. Brilliant, and the characters progress nicely in an unpredictable fashion due to a couple curveballs Baldacci throws our way this time.

The narration is great, better for Orlagh's reinterpretation of Michelle this round, but as always for some reason the production is cheesy. Not as bad as the 6th Man, but still includes silly music and sound effects that are completely unecessary. I wish there was a rating for "production" instead of performance.

Grabs you attention

Would you consider the audio edition of King and Maxwell to be better than the print version?

Classic VBaldacci that held our interest from the first word through our 1250 mile, 2 and a half day dive to Florida.

Love the King and Maxwell team!

I love the K&M series of Baldacci books and this final installment did not disappoint. I would love another! As for the audio version - it's great to hear the male and female readers using different voices for different characters and with sound effects and thrilling music at times it really livens up the experience.
