Walt in Philly

Would you listen to Kindness Goes Unpunished again? Why?

Yes. I would listen to this book and all the Walt Longmire books again. Guidall's reading is exquisite. And I really like Walt, Vick, and Henry. It was fun to see Walt outside of Wyoming doing his sheriff thing.

What other book might you compare Kindness Goes Unpunished to and why?

I compare Walt Longmire to Miles Vorksigan in the Barrayar series of Bujold. Although different in many ways, they are similar where it counts. They solve problems, they have issues, they are surrounded by great people, etc.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I cannot imagine Walt Longmire with any other voice than George's. If suddenly I found that one of the volumes in the series was by another reader, I would be shocked and dismayed (such as happened when the Dresden series changing from James Marsters). George does a great job with the other voices too. So, his reading enriches the experience.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Big Country Sheriff in the Big City

My 1st Walt Longmire mystery read after A&E

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I fell in love with the Longmire A&E television series. Well acted, well written, and intriguing. So when the season ended, it was time to investigate the series that got it all started. It is great! I'd strongly recommend it to mystery or western buffs. I especially enjoy the modern American Indian influences.

What other book might you compare Kindness Goes Unpunished to and why?

I'm also a Harry Bosch (by Michael Connelly) fan and am enjoying some of Baldacci's books. This rates right up with them on quality. What I like more about the Johnson title was it's strong folksy voice and laid back western style. It made it a unique read.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His makes his voice match the character with unwavering talent and strength.I didn't enjoy the technical speed up in certain of the tense scenes. i'm not sure why someone made the decision to do that. If they felt it dragged, they could have made the speed up on the narrator less noticeable. It came across as amateurish. NOT the reader's fault!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Spoiler alert: The opening where the tough western sherrif is reading to the students was a stupendous beginning! Probably the most moving was the scenes were those beside his daughter's bedside.

Any additional comments?

I will be working my way through these. I actually purchased the CD book on ebay for my brother who is not an audible member. I enjoyed it that much!

Kindness goes unpunished

Another great read. Love the writing and the narration is beyond anything else in its field. Thought three was better than two for me. Looking forward to number four

Philly may never be the same

The combination of Craig Johnson's writing and George Guidall's reading is simply too good to miss. A recent convert to the Walt Longmire series, I can't get enough. They are so good that I've had to promise to pace myself.

But what about the story, you ask? Well, translate Wyoming's culture into the heart of big city Philadelphia, add in an ever revealing plot (or twisting to say it another way), and Longmire's trademark smarts and humor and there you have it. Sound implausible? It did to me as well, but man, can Johnson tell a story. It works all right, Indians, lawyers, and crooked lawyers included. I'll leave it at that. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this one.

Great Series

I loved the Longmire television adaptation of some of this book series and decided to listen to the Audible books. Kindness Goes Unpunished is the third in the series and it is my favorite so far. I love Henry and Walt's camaraderie. I also enjoyed learning a little more about Vic's family. It was also a good story even though it played out in Philadelphia instead of Wyoming.

Best so far!

Loved this one best so far. Love the humor and love the interaction between Bear and Walt and Walt and Vic the terror. I️ almost hope that Walt and Vic become permanent.

Really amazing!

This series of books stands on its own simply on the strength of the writing and story. But as an Audiobook, this series really shines. Masterful narration! Really makes this book a more whole experience. I would give more stars if i could!
