Publisher's summary

Craig Johnson’s rough-and-tumble hero Walt Longmire is quickly becoming a fan-favorite and a critical success.

Here Walt has his hands full as greedy land developers employ shady, violent methods to reverse their fortunes in recession-racked Wyoming, where the owners of a multi-million dollar development of ranchettes want to get rid of the adjacent junk-yard. When a severed thumb is discovered in the yard, conflicts erupt, and Walt Longmire, his trusty companion Dog, life-long friend Henry Standing Bear, and deputies Santiago Saizarbitoria and Victoria Moretti find themselves in a small town that feels more and more like a high plains pressure cooker.

Critic reviews

“It’s the scenery—and the big guy standing in front of the scenery—that keeps us coming back to [these] lean and leathery mysteries.” ( New York Times Book Review)

A pretty good whodunit with twists

This is another good crime story. The only criticism I would have is that Craig doesn't introduce spare characters. So with this length of book and complexity of subject it is a fair bet that anyone you meet is going to figure in the story one way or another. It's just a question of picking which one you fancy for what role. At least he leaves the question open until the end. I guess that part is how real world works. But he could do with a better set of background characters.

Always great

Not only do I love the stories but the narration is the best. I will continue with this series as long as they keep going.

Even good compared to other Longmire stories.

Where does Junkyard Dogs rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the top 10%

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I dont think the question pertinent. It should be "Did the story hold your interest"? and it did, thoroughly. With the added benefit that it did NOT stress me with more intensity than I like my leisure activities to inspire.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

He is perfect as Longmire.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I found the whole thing very satisfying. Moved me? Life moves me enough, challenges me enough, stresses me enough. Something like a Longmire story is nourishing. A good man battles the big bad world for us and is gently amused and tender of our eccentricities.

Pure Entertainment

Five stars is a pretty heafty rating for any book. However the latest in the Longmire Mysteries is so clever and entertaining I couldn't resist. Junkyard Dogs won't win the Pulitzer and if you are looking for deep you are looking in the wrong end of the pool. Yes, I admit it, I am a 53 year old female who never in a million years thought I'd enjoy a Cowboy Sheriff Mystery and I've enjoyed everyone of the books in this series (all rated 4 stars). Junkyard Dogs tops my list. I chuckled for nearly all of the short seven and half hours it took to listen. Are you looking for light entertainment that leaves you wanting more? Spend your credit!
