Publisher's summary

Craig Johnson’s rough-and-tumble hero Walt Longmire is quickly becoming a fan-favorite and a critical success.

Here Walt has his hands full as greedy land developers employ shady, violent methods to reverse their fortunes in recession-racked Wyoming, where the owners of a multi-million dollar development of ranchettes want to get rid of the adjacent junk-yard. When a severed thumb is discovered in the yard, conflicts erupt, and Walt Longmire, his trusty companion Dog, life-long friend Henry Standing Bear, and deputies Santiago Saizarbitoria and Victoria Moretti find themselves in a small town that feels more and more like a high plains pressure cooker.

“It’s the scenery—and the big guy standing in front of the scenery—that keeps us coming back to [these] lean and leathery mysteries.” ( New York Times Book Review)

Very funny

I sure enjoy the humor in his stories. They are fun to listen to. Not too deep so you can be doing other things while listening. Great characters.

Fantastic

Extremely well written and performed.Graig Johnson's Walt Longmire is an extraordinary character. So are the many supporting characters in the series. Henry Standing Bear is my other favorite, along with Ruby, Vick and the other deputies. In this particular book three dogs share the limelight as great characters. First there is Walt's dog named Dog. He is a huge mixed breed dog that hangs out with Walt at all times. He has become a favorite of mine since he first appeared a few books ago. Then there are the two Junkyard dogs, named Butch and Sundance. All three of these dogs play a big part in this book.

The book starts off with Gramps being dragged along behind his granddaughter in law's Oldsmobile. He was tied to the bumper and up on the roof when she cranks up the car and heads into town. Then there is the mystery of the severed thumb the Sheriff's office found and then the murders begin. There are many twists and turns that all come to a satisfying conclusion.

I must mention that George Guidall is the best narrator possible for performing the Walt Longmire series. Guidall is fantastic. I can't explain why, but if you listen for three or four minutes, you will understand. He is so talented and it is obvious that he clearly understands the story and the characters. Speaking of story, Graig Johnson is a master storyteller. Couple that with his mastery of the written language and you have a winner - throw in Guidall's performance and you have a MEGA HIT. Junkyard Dogs is a great book in a great series.

another modern Western winner

with the great cast especially Walt, Vic and Henry he makes Wyoming even at 20 below zero sounds like a wonderland of Adventure and an essential little Society. His timely humorous touches to the scenarios help keep your interest and break it up.

I'm in love with Walt Longmire.

Yes, my dear husband knows. We have both read all of the series and watched the TV version as well. The TV Walt is not the same as the one in the books but both are irresistible.
Each book is so well written and totally entertaining. A visit to Wyoming is on my bucket list just because of these books. They are modern day westerns with an honest Sherriff and his native American best friend. What's not to love?
