Publisher's summary

In an uptown strip joint, a cop is found bludgeoned to death. The weapon's a baseball bat. The motive's a mystery. It's a case of serious overkill that pushes Eve Dallas straight into overdrive. Her investigation uncovers a private club that's more than a hot spot. Purgatory's a last chance for atonement where everyone is judged. Where your most intimate fate depends on your most intimate sins. And where one cop's hidden secrets are about to plunge innocent souls into vice-ridden damnation.
Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Another 5

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love Susan Ericksen's reading the 'In Death' series, she's perfect for the audio version of Dallas, and the others.

Any additional comments?

I'm not sure what I love about the In Death series, just do, easy to listen to thanks to Susan Ericksen's narration, easy to digest thanks to Robb's writing. Takes me away for a while without a lot of thought provoking deep meanings. No nonsense with a nice niches of comedy, although I could do without the romantic bits, they are also somehow part of the storyline. I'm a sucker for the series.

Book 11 of the Best Series Ever!

The 'In Death' series, written by J.D. Robb & narrated by Susan Ericksen, is a futuristic suspense series. The story is set in mid-21st-century New York City & it centers around Lieutenant Eve Dallas & her billionaire husband, Roarke.

My husband & I both love all of the J.D. Robb, 'In Death' series. We first began listening to them when they were on CDs. We've listened to the entire series, in order, three times so far! If we're driving somewhere, you can be sure Eve, Roarke, Peabody, McNab, Capt. Feeney, Mavis, Dr. Mira, Nadine, Summerset & the rest of the gang are in the truck with us. We love all of the major characters & look forward, with anticipation, to the new audiobooks that come out in February & September every year!

If you're looking for an awesome mystery series, a little romance with a bit of the futuristic thrown in, then you'll love this series! Believe me, you just can't go wrong, but be warned... once you get started, you'll be hooked!

Truly spectacular

Judgment in Death by J. D. Robb is the eleventh book in the In Death, and boy does it leave a lot to unpack. The biggest topic to discuss is the theme of police corruption. When you think that Ms. Robb released this novel in 2000, it speaks volumes that police corruption remains a hot-button issue twenty-three years later. I love that Eve is such a hardliner, not afraid to expose the rot in her beloved police department because it gives a bad name to a career she cherishes.

Judgment in Death contains one of the goriest scenes in the series and probably one of the worst scenes I've read. Again, it is a stark reminder that when Nora Roberts dons her J. D. Robb writer's hat, she is not afraid to take her characters to places few will travel and expose them to scenes authors typically don't like to show.

One of the things I loved about Judgment in Death is that we learn more about Roarke's past. More importantly, we get a glimpse of the behavior that gave him such a lasting reputation. We learn more about who Roarke used to be and can finally understand why he has no desire to revisit those days.

Judgment in Death provides a much-needed step forward for Eve and Roarke's marriage. I always love when they butt heads over her work, but this was the first time where I didn't find it amusing at all. Roarke is so good for Eve, but I am not certain he was right this time. Their disharmony is unsettling as much for the readers as it is for them.

As always, Susan Erickson's performance is stellar. At this point, I can't picture any actor as these characters because I know their voices will not match any as performed by Ms. Erickson. I look forward to her narration as much as I do to the story itself.

Great, as usual

OK, I just love this series by JD Robb (Nora Roberts), especially the Audible versions. Yes, there are a lot of coincidences that bring Lt. Dallas's hunky husband Rourke into a main role in her investigations and the cases sometimes bring her back to her troubled past. But the plots are great and the futuristic devices and contrivances are fun and innovative. In this book, someone is killing cops and that brings the case close to home. Plus there is a parallel case of a big-time racketeer that keeps slipping through the fingers of the cops. The resolution is exciting, fun and compelling. The narrative is great too. The dynamics between Dallas and Rourke are off the charts too. There are many colorful characters, especially in Dalla's department and her friends.

Emotions again pull Eve in all directions

Great story line with relationship stress. Different to hear Roarks possessiveness come out and their egos go to battle. I love the way they work through problems no matter what comes their way. And the interdepartmental stress has Eve showing her colors throughout the story.

Riveting series

I have read these books in order to this point. Good meaty stories. Fun as well. Detail oriented without being trendy. This narrator is elegant and colorful..
