Publisher's summary

When Joanna Brady's daughter, Jenny, stumbles across the body of her high school principal, Debra Highsmith, in the desert, the Cochise County sheriff's personal and professional worlds collide. Though she's tried to protect her children from the dangers of the grown-up world, the search for justice leads straight to her own door and forces her to face the possibility that her beloved daughter may be less perfect than she seems.

Yet the deeper Joanna digs, the more complications she uncovers. It seems the quiet, upstanding principal had a hidden past, full of mysterious secrets she'd successfully kept buried for years. As the seasoned sheriff juggles professional constraints and personal demands, she finds herself walking a fine line between justice and family that has never been so blurred.

Good Story But BAD Narrator

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The storyline was good and typical of what a small town sherriff would encounter. I liked the mix of Joanna's personal and professional life being weaved into the story. There were no real surprises or twists, just a narration of what a murder investigation is about to Joanna Brady.

Would you recommend Judgment Call to your friends? Why or why not?

No. The narrator is extremely bad. Distracted a lot from the story line. Perhaps if there was a different narrator I would recommend the book.

What didn’t you like about Hillary Huber’s performance?

This narrator has a smarmy, bored, toneless narration. There was very little inflection. No voice characterizations of the different characters in the story, and her voice sounds like she is very bored and distracted. It sounds like she has no interest in telling the story. Smarmy, nasal, and bored are what comes to mind when I listen to the narrator's voice.

Why would you pick her to read a best seller? Surely there are better qualified narrators available. Was she picked because she works the cheapest? It is mystifying to me why audible would have a bad narrator read a good book.

Did Judgment Call inspire you to do anything?

No.

Distracting narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator was unbelievably nasal. Really unppealing and distracting. Almost a caricature... My kids kept imitating her.
