Publisher's summary

The death of history teacher Craig Foster devastated his young wife, who'd sent him off to work that morning with a lovingly packed lunch. It shocked his colleagues at the Upper West Side private school. And as for the 10-year-old girls who found him in his classroom in a pool of bodily fluids, they may have been traumatized for life.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas, of course, is more hardened to murder cases. And this is clearly a murder case. That lovingly packed lunch was tainted with deadly ricin. And Mr. Foster's colleagues, shocked as they may be, have some shocking secrets of their own. It's Eve's job to get a feel for all the potential suspects, and find out why someone would have done this to a man who seemed so inoffensive, so pleasant...so innocent.

Now Magdelana Percell - there's someone Eve can picture as a murder victim. Possibly at Eve's own hands. The slinky blonde - an old flame of her billionaire husband, Roarke, from his days on the wrong side of the law - has turned up in New York, and she's anything but innocent.

Unfortunately, Roarke seems blind to Magdelana's manipulation, but not to her shapely figure and flirtatious ways. And he insists that the occasional lunch or business meeting with her is nothing to worry about...and none of Eve's business.

Eve's so unnerved by the situation that she finds it hard to focus on the Foster case. Still, she'll have to put aside her anger, jealousy, and heartbreak, for a while at least - because another man has just turned up dead, and the case is taking some strange turns and hitting some frustrating dead ends.

Eve knows all too well that innocence can be a façade. Keeping that in mind may help her solve this case at last. But it may also tear apart her marriage.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Critic reviews

"Once again Lt. Eve Dallas shows why she's 'New York City's top murder cop' in [Nora] Roberts's 24th thriller under her Robb pseudonym set half a century into the future." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Susan Ericksen...delivers powerful secondary characters of both genders and varying ages." ( AudioFile)

Marital troubles for our favorite couple.

I love this narrator she's so good with accents for the different characters. Liked the storyline because it was unexpected. Then there's the trouble between Eve and Roarke over one of his ex lovers. This time it really hurts Eve and even Somerset is on her side!

OMG! I am SO hooked!

With every Eve Dallas book that I read, I find myself deeper and deeper in. I love this series and I find that the narrator has everything to do with that. The writing is great, but the narrator just brings the words to life. I don't know how she does it, but she is spot on with the charactors.

Love JD Robb books!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend the J.D.Robb books to anyone who listens to audio books. Love the story of Eve and Roarke. Susan Erickson does a wonderful job with the different characters and accents. I needed to make a list of all because I am always looking for a new audio in the series. Have bought and listened to at least 15 in the series. Love them all.

Still one of the best stories

I have listened to this book 3 times and every time I listen to it I am riveted. This is a story that will captivate and surprise you and even though you have listened to it several times you will still find different aspects to the story that you did not hear before. Eve and Roarke's relationship is tested and Eve's vulnerability is open and on display. Your heart just breaks for her and her innocence on how to deal with her feelings. I love how Eve will go to Mavis when she has no where else to turn. After years of friendship they have truly been there for each other. Her openness with Peabody is starting to build into a great relationship between them.

The craziness with the story will have you shook at the end.

Evildoers come in all forms, sizes and genders

🎧Susan Ericksen narration of Innocent in Death was brilliant. 🎧

🎧Stories with this type of villain/villains makes one wonder ... are murderers born evildoers ? Or is the environment one grows ? Or it's circumstances ? Or influence? Or is it simpler ... they born this way? 🎧

My Favorite Eve Dallas Story

In the New York of 2060, the appearance of Magdalena Percell, an ex-lover and ex-colleague of Roarke's, shakes Lieutenant Eve Dallas's life to its foundations. She can't seem to hit her stride while investigating a series of sudden deaths at a high-profile private school. Once the conflicts in her personal life are resolved, Dallas defies the conclusions of both her computer and profiler Dr. Mira to prevent a sociopath killer from ever being able to strike again.
