Publisher's summary

The death of history teacher Craig Foster devastated his young wife, who'd sent him off to work that morning with a lovingly packed lunch. It shocked his colleagues at the Upper West Side private school. And as for the 10-year-old girls who found him in his classroom in a pool of bodily fluids, they may have been traumatized for life.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas, of course, is more hardened to murder cases. And this is clearly a murder case. That lovingly packed lunch was tainted with deadly ricin. And Mr. Foster's colleagues, shocked as they may be, have some shocking secrets of their own. It's Eve's job to get a feel for all the potential suspects, and find out why someone would have done this to a man who seemed so inoffensive, so pleasant...so innocent.

Now Magdelana Percell - there's someone Eve can picture as a murder victim. Possibly at Eve's own hands. The slinky blonde - an old flame of her billionaire husband, Roarke, from his days on the wrong side of the law - has turned up in New York, and she's anything but innocent.

Unfortunately, Roarke seems blind to Magdelana's manipulation, but not to her shapely figure and flirtatious ways. And he insists that the occasional lunch or business meeting with her is nothing to worry about...and none of Eve's business.

Eve's so unnerved by the situation that she finds it hard to focus on the Foster case. Still, she'll have to put aside her anger, jealousy, and heartbreak, for a while at least - because another man has just turned up dead, and the case is taking some strange turns and hitting some frustrating dead ends.

Eve knows all too well that innocence can be a façade. Keeping that in mind may help her solve this case at last. But it may also tear apart her marriage.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Critic reviews

"Once again Lt. Eve Dallas shows why she's 'New York City's top murder cop' in [Nora] Roberts's 24th thriller under her Robb pseudonym set half a century into the future." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Susan Ericksen...delivers powerful secondary characters of both genders and varying ages." ( AudioFile)

thoroughly enjoyed this book, though I was able to guess the murderer halfway through.

Really great

this was a very emotional book for me. Started off with a very sad victim and family. I was very engaged with the book entirely.

Roarke!

I wish Eve would be attracted to someone a little and make Roarke seriously worry about his marriage. He’s so smirky about all the women they run into that he’s slept with. He’s just announces he’s going to see his old lover like he’s entitled. I wish Eve would say “I guess we’re seeing other people” and call him on it. That would be a great “In Death” book. Give him back some of his own.

Good creepy killer!

While I don’t care much for Nora Roberts romances I’ve been really enjoying her JD Robb in death series. And Susan Erickson is one of my favorite narrators.

Ah loved it even when it was breaking my heart!!!!

What did you love best about Innocent in Death?

The twist and turn with who the culprit was. But the strife between Eve and Roarke was so great.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, I was eagerly listening on how it was all going to come together and workout!

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, each JD Robb book she reads is better and better. She makes me envision the read book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My heart ached for the conflict between Eve and Roarke. It literally was aching!!!!!

Any additional comments?

So worth the credit or purchase to this book. I keep coming back to this book over and over.

One of the best in the In Death series.

I really enjoyed this book. The conflict in Eve's personal life was very entertaining but identifying the killer and listening to her describe her crimes was absolutely chilling. I have a feeling we will meet this killer again in a future book. I really hope so.

Innocent in Death

Excellent! These books are always excellent! Between solving a crime and an old flame of Rourke’s, it’s a page turner
