Publisher's summary

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum and Trenton vice cop Joe Morelli join forces to find the madman killer who shot and barbecued the youngest son of international black-market arms dealer Alexander Ramos.

Carlos Manoso, street name Ranger, is caught on video just minutes before the crime occurs. He's at the scene, he's with the victim, and he's the number-one suspect. Ranger is former special forces turned soldier of fortune. He has a blue-chip stock portfolio and no known address. He moves in mysterious circles. He's Stephanie's mentor—the man who taught her everything she knows about fugitive apprehension. And he's more than her friend.

Now he's the hunted and Stephanie's the hunter, and it's time for her to test her skills against the master. But if she does catch him...what then? Can she bring herself to turn him in?

Plus there are other things keeping Stephanie awake at night. Her maternal grandmother has set up housekeeping in Stephanie's apartment, a homicidal maniac has selected Stephanie as his next victim, her love life is in the toilet, she's adopted a dog with an eating disorder, and she can't button the top snap on her Levi's.

Experience the world of Plum—in Janet Evanovich's new thriller. It's surreal, it's frenetic, it's incendiary. Hot Six. It's the best yet.

Critic reviews

“Actress Mazar has just the right sassy streetwise accent to fit the first-person voice of Evanovich's hero, Stephanie Plum. Mazar sounds poised yet real in her role as the New Jersey-based bounty hunter. She gamely throws herself into the dramatic ‘bits' along the way, playing out the dialogue scenes with relish.” —Publishers Weekly

“Steph and company make for another helping of energetic entertainment--a savory Plum pudding for her growing army of fans.” —Kirkus Reviews

“A lunatic tapestry of nonstop action peopled by wacky characters straight out of a 1930s screwball comedy...Evanovich just keeps getting better.” —Publisher's Weekly

Music not needed

love the story. the accompanying music is a deterrent and not complimentary, in my opinion.

Good book

I really enjoy this series, but the chapters are off on the Audio and the music that indicates the end of a chapter and the beginning of the next is annoying. The story is on par with the rest of the series, funny and forehead slapping. Can't get enough of Grandma, and the dynamic between Ranger and Steph

Narrator and abridged

I didn’t know to make sure this wasn’t abridged. The narrator was difficult to understand. I was disappointed.

Interesting, quick and entertaining

I enjoyed this quick read quite a lot. It’s not particularly cleverly written and the plot is pretty straightforward, but I enjoy this series. It’s sort of like a sitcom episode.

Number 6

I really like this story line. Not super sexy but a strong female lead. They switch narrators and added music along which was NOT a plus but overall 4 stars.

The Last Half of Book 5

Well it was interesting to finally get the rest of the story... Book 5 ended with things hanging and Book 6 was the last half of Book 5. Still not use to the Narrator.

Not that bad

I don't think it is bad at all. It's not the best of the series but surely not the worst. I didn't think the reader was as bad as portrayed either. Growing up in Chicagoland I didn't have any trouble with her accent, in fact I think it gives the read a little character.
The only thing I hate is paying $11 for 3 hrs.

Story is good- Narrator not so much

Would you try another book from Janet Evanovich and/or Debi Mazar?

I have almost all of the Plum books in audio and print versions. I have enjoyed almost all of them, but I could not tolerate the monotonous presentation of this story by the narrator. It became difficult to stay focused on the plot line.

How could the performance have been better?

Other narrators in this series actually act out the story by using inflection and different voices. This narrator simply reads the story in a monotone voice with a very heavy accent.

Was Hot Six worth the listening time?

I finally turned it off about 1/3 of the way through.

Love the series!

This is the first time I have read this author and have fallen in love with the Stephanie Plum series. I downloaded all 13 books and listened to them all within a week. I couldn’t wait to hear what adventures (and mishaps!) that Stephanie, Joe, Ranger, Lula and the rest of the gang would get into. I’ve read some of the previous reviews. I agree with some and disagree with others. I disagree that it gets old and complacent that Stephanie finds herself in the same situations in every book. It appears to me that Stephanie’s character is just one of those people that trouble and mayhem seem to find. I do agree that narrator Lori Petty is the voice of Stephanie. Narrator Debi Mazar’s accent is a bit heavy for audio books and then after all this Lorilei King takes over as narrator for the rest of the series. While Ms. King’s character voices are awesome (she has such a range!) her Stephanie voice has no Jersey accent at all and sound just a little too “blue blood”. Otherwise Ms. King is a joy to listen to. You will fall in love with Ranger and Joe! Both are too hot to handle……no wonder Stephanie can’t choose between the two!

Don’t let the narrator changes deter you from listening to this funny charming, and at times mysterious series. You won’t be disappointed if you’re looking for something light hearted to listen to.
