Publisher's Summary

It's a case that haunts Bobby Dodge to this day - the case that nearly killed him and changed his life forever. Now, the gruesome discovery of six mummified corpses resurrects his worst nightmare: the return of a killer he thought dead and buried.

Bobby's only lead is wrapped around a dead woman's neck. Annabelle Granger's childhood was a blur of new cities and assumed identities. But what or who her family was running from, she never knew. Now a body is unearthed from a grave, wearing a necklace bearing Annabelle's name, and the danger is too close to escape.

Dodge knows he must solve the mystery of Annabelle Granger, and to do that, he must team up with his former lover, partner, and friend D. D. Warren from the Boston P.D.

From its beginning to its shocking climax, Hide is a thriller that delves into our deepest, darkest fears - where there is no one to trust, where there is no place left to hide.

    "Great book! Wonderful reading!"

I'm reading all the DD Warren books and without fail Lisa Gardner delivered a riveting story with colorful characters and suspenseful twists. The performance was great. The reader performed each characters voice greatly and usually the listener is able to determine which character is spreading.
    Would recommend this book.

"7th or 8th Lisa Gardner Book"
What did you love best about Hide?

As a Boston based person, the setting was fun to hear about throughout the book - being familiar with the neighborhoods and streets.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Very disappointed. I've loved the twists at the end of every other LG book, this one was way too far fetched - it felt a bit like she pulled a name from a hat to tie it all up.

Have you listened to any of Maggi-Meg Reed’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'm not sure - but this one was fine. I enjoyed the narration.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

You can't trust anyone these days.

"DD and Bobby did it again"
What did you love best about Hide?

Background I was given on each character without reading all the other books. I read "Alone" a long time ago and forgot about it... this book took me back with really good description of their past without boring me.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes... You never know who you can or can not trust!

What does Maggi-Meg Reed bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Attitude ... The thrill of a scene.. suspense ... I would have to re-read pages to get what is said but with the tone in her voice you can keep up and its like every character has a different voice. Great Job

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No Extreme Reaction... I want to go back a reread "Alone" now.

    Any additional comments?

Great book... I recommend all the DD and Bobby series! Love these 2

"The Narrator Makes This a Must Listen"
Would you listen to Hide again? Why?

Maybe, one of the great things about this book is you have no idea what is going to happen. You can only get that kind of suspense on the first listen.

Which character – as performed by Maggi-Meg Reed – was your favorite?

Maggi-Meg Reed was so great at all of the characters, she is truly an astounding narrator. My favorite might be when she does the voice of an old school Boston detective, she just nails his character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Reed doesn't hold back when the main character is emotional, she brings that emotion into her reading especially near the end. She chokes up when the character chokes up.

    Any additional comments?

I will be listening to other audiobooks by Reed. I couldn't stop listening to this book.

"The first in the series is a bit shaky"

After reading a book in the DD Warren series that is much later in the chronology, I decided to come back to the first book and see how it all started. The story is a bit shakier and character composites are pretty weak. I found a lot of the plot wholly unbelievable. The speed at which the detectives came to any conclusions seemed really absurd. They also seemed to accept the incredible stories without much doubt, even when the story-teller was reminiscing about events in the very distant past. Weird. I know from the other Lisa Gardner book I read that the plots and character development improve.

The narrator was only okay. I didn't mind her voice but I didn't think it added a lot to the story. I'll buy and listen to more of these with her as the narrator, but I don't hold much hope for improvement here.

Finally, the author loves name dropping the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. As I have several friends who work there, I enjoy this. In this particular book the mention was short - but accurate. This wasn't quite true in the other book I read.

    "Interesting"

I enjoyed the book, it was interesting, but not to the point that I couldn't put it down until I finished it, but all in all, it was worth the price.

This was one of the best books I have listened too. I really enjoyed the guessing game of who done it and did not see the twist coming at the end. If you like murder mysteries listen to this book.

    "Narration is Terrible"
    What disappointed you about Hide?

I listen to a lot of books and have never written a review but the narration on this book is so bad I just wanted to warn others that might want to try it. I can't tell who is speaking because of the same monotone voice or the narrator. It might be a great book and my wife loves all of Lisa Gardner's books but this was just too hard to listen.

Would you ever listen to anything by Lisa Gardner again?

    yes, with another narrator

What didn’t you like about Maggi-Meg Reed’s performance?

No inflection or emotion in the reading.... just the same tone throughout

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I was so distracted by the narrator that I could not even get into it to determine if it had any other qualities.

"Better than the first one in series"

Ok, complaints about first in series, very little Dee-Dee, this book has much more although Bobbie is still "hero". The change in narrator made it go from terrible to listen to to ok. The story DIDN'T have Munchhausen by proxy (as the first two I read did have). BUT I found the story pretty convoluted with just too many coincidences. An ok read, will probably re-read at least once to try to catch more of the coincidences/names, etc.
