Audie Award Finalist, Mystery, 2014

"What do you think happened to your husband, Mrs. Keller?"

The Sunday morning starts like any other, aside from the slight hangover. Dani Keller wakes up on her Seattle houseboat, a headache building behind her eyes from the wine she drank at a party the night before. But on this particular Sunday morning, she's surprised to see that her husband, Ian, is not home. As the hours pass, Dani fills her day with small things. But still, Ian does not return. Irritation shifts to worry, worry slides almost imperceptibly into panic. And then, like a relentless blackness, the terrible realization hits Dani: He's gone.

As the police work methodically through all the logical explanations - he's hurt, he's run off, he's been killed - Dani searches frantically for a clue as to whether Ian is in fact dead or alive. And, slowly, she unpacks their relationship, holding each moment up to the light: from its intense, adulterous beginning, to the grandeur of their new love, to the difficulties of forever. She examines all the sins she can - and cannot - remember.

As the days pass, Dani will plumb the depths of her conscience, turning over and revealing the darkest of her secrets in order to discover the hard truth - about herself, her husband, and their lives together.

Probably one of the most outstanding listens ever!

Right up there with "A Prayer for Owen Meany" and "The Prince of Tides" for depth and complexity of an intriguing plot that grabbed me right away. The skillful weaving of past and present kept me guessing (and riveted) until the end. Along with Cassandra Campbell's inspired performance, I could not stop listening until I found out what happened. Then I did it again, slower, savoring the ingenious way this story was told. Such beautiful prose...

I forced myself to complete this story....

Depressing, a story about cheating, paranoia, distrust and death. Suspenseful, but I had to force myself not to fast forward through all the pain to find out what happened in the end...this was not my cup of tea.

Good Book & Amazing Narrator

I enjoyed this book greatly. I was so tempted to skip to the end of the book to solve the mystery. I was driving myself crazy not knowing where "He's Gone". Narrator was perfect as perfect can be. I've never deen disappointed when she reads to me.

Ending not a surprise.

The ending really wasn't a surprise. I don't want to ruin it for others, but police usually follow procedures. They did not in this case. Otherwise, an enjoyable diversion.

This starts with a familiar wifes feeling and . .

If you could sum up He's Gone in three words, what would they be?

married life

What was one of the most memorable moments of He's Gone?

When the star wakes up and realizes she has the bed to herself and how much she enjoys it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

this book is a reminder of the things we have done in the past that we will eventually feel guilt for -- even when we felt so right at the time.

He's gone

Good....not great. Too many analogies, soooo wordy from this, I found myself wanting to skip ahead.

This book is okay. But why listen to an "okay" book when there are so many wonderful books out there? Keep searching...

Not a Thriller

This is a good study in human nature. Not a murder mystery. It does keep you guessing until the end when all questions are answered. It is a book about relationships.

A Mystery of Emotions

A very well written book seemingly aimed at a feminine demographic. As a man I found the depth of emotional exploration to be tedious and aggrevating. This book can be best described as a "Reverse Romance Novel with an Anti Climatic Twist Ending..."

Did he leave?

Readers are treated to a ride fraught with second guessing, retracing steps and the sôul searching Dani suffers through when her husband mysteriously vanishes. Her anxiety peaks and ebbs with every possible lead. Think of every scenario your imagination could conjure up in this situation and the story goes there.
