Publisher's summary

Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus are back in this gripping mystery involving a secret cabal of some of Los Angeles’ most wealthy - and vicious - teens.

LAPD lieutenant detective Decker and his wife, Rina, have willingly welcomed fifteen-year-old Gabriel Whitman into their home. While the enigmatic teen seems to be adapting easily, Decker knows only too well the secrets adolescents keep - witnessed by the tragic suicide of another teen, Gregory Hesse, a student at Bell and Wakefield, one of the city’s most exclusive prep schools.

Gregory’s mother refuses to believe her son shot himself and convinces Decker to look deeper. What he finds disturbs him. The gun used in the tragedy was stolen - evidence that propels him to launch a full investigation. But the case becomes darkly complicated by the suicide of another Bell and Wakefield student - a death that leads them to uncover an especially nasty group of rich and privileged students with a predilection for guns and violence.

Before it’s over, the case and all its terrifying ramifications will take Decker and his detectives down a dark alley of twisted allegiances and unholy alliances, culminating into a heart-stopping point of no return.

Not up to Faye Kellerman's standard.

What disappointed you about Gun Games?

The dialog between Jasmine and Gabriel was too long, too overwrought, and too unbelievable.

If you’ve listened to books by Faye Kellerman before, how does this one compare?

I much enjoyed her other books, but this falls short mostly because the really interesting characters get the least attention.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mitchell Greenberg?

George Guidall or Scott Brick would have been infinitely better.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I quit reading in the middle and didn't take it up again until I ran out of other things to listen to.

Faye Kellerman Disappoints!

I cannot recommend this book to anyone. I am embarrassed that I even purchased it. There was far too much concentration on the sexual awakenings of young teenagers and very little focus on the characters/relationship that the series is about. If this had been my first read of Ms Kellerman, it would have been my last. As it is, I will not use another credit to be so disappointed by this author.

Teenage Angst Overload

Way too much teenage coming of age storyline. The Detective part of the story was good but the teenage love story that encompasses a huge part of the book, was of no interest to this adult reader.

Something that maybe a preteen would read

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Nothing could have made this a 4 or 5 start review. I have read a lot of Faye Kellerman, but this one was too much! I had to stop before I got sick of all the teeny bopper talk. If I had gotten the book I could skim over it, but even then the story is not compelling. Maybe Kellerman has been inflicted with that disease many writers get -- get the story out on deadline. I know that's what her husband does.

Would you ever listen to anything by Faye Kellerman again?

NO!

Would you be willing to try another one of Mitchell Greenberg’s performances?

Perhaps, if he didn't have to be the voice of love struck teeny boppers.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger (that I wasted my money) and disappointment (because I expected more of Faye Kellerman).

Any additional comments?

Don't throw your money away on this audible (expensive) book. Don't buy that book, period! Horrible waste of time and money.

But I doubt this will be posted as I see Audible posts reviews at it's own discretion. No money in my review.

First Kellerman book I've not been able to finish.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Focus on Decker/Lazarus, not on a 15-year-old kid's horny rants.

What could Faye Kellerman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Please never, ever, delve into early teen love and lust again, please.

Have you listened to any of Mitchell Greenberg’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Greenburg is fine, it's the story that stinks.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Very disappointed. The book was excruciating and I couldn't even finish it. I've never put down one of Kellerman's books before.

Any additional comments?

I hope this book was an anomaly. I, like many other reviewers, simply wasn't comfortable with the focus shift away from Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus to a horny 15 year old kid's thoughts about an even young teen girl. It was just .... uncomfortable, and more than that, uninteresting. A real disappointment from an otherwise riveting writer.

Not a Peter Decker story

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have no idea. I think even a teenager would see that this is poorly written and sex used as a filler.

What was most disappointing about Faye Kellerman’s story?

I did not buy this because I wanted to read about teen age sex! I was looking for another good Peter Decker mystery. If it was there I could not listen long enough to find it! Yuck!

Would you be willing to try another one of Mitchell Greenberg’s performances?

I usually don't check for readers. Greenberg did Ok with poor writing.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Gun Games?

I would cut the scenes between Gabe and Jasmine. Seemed like she used it and way too much of it for fill instead of writing about the name of the book ; Guns - teen age suicide -

Any additional comments?

I have read almost all of Fay Kellerman's books. I like her much more than her husband. No more for me Let her fans know when she goes back to detective stories and stays away from adding sex to try to sell her books.

I wold really like to have my money refunded or credit replaced and would like to know how to make that happen.

Least favorite Faye Kellerman story ever! Skip it.

Would you try another book from Faye Kellerman and/or Mitchell Greenberg?

Yes, but not based on this story. I have read all her other Detective Decker books.

What could Faye Kellerman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The dialog between Jasmine and Gabe was boring, uninteresting, unbelievable and for the most part, irrelevant to the story which dragged.

Which character – as performed by Mitchell Greenberg – was your favorite?

Gabe, when not with Jasmine.

What character would you cut from Gun Games?

Jasmine

Any additional comments?

This story reminded me more of a teen book except for some of the more explicit descriptions near the end which I would not recommend to teen readers. The story did not grab me and if I had been reading it, I would not have finished it at all.

Very disappointing book

The narrator was good, the story was awful. Don't spend your money on this one, the teenage love story in this was just so bad, and frankly they were much to young for the plot to be realistic. I've always enjoyed the Decker stories, but this was just really bad. The only reason I even kept listening was because the narrator was pretty good.

The story dragged on and I fast forwarded through most of the teenage love story stuff.

Disapointing!!

Would you try another book from Faye Kellerman and/or Mitchell Greenberg?

I always anxiiously await Faye Kellerman novels but was so diapointed in this book. The discriptive language was really disgusting. I'm not prudish about languae in books but this was a little too much.

Would you ever listen to anything by Faye Kellerman again?

Yes , her other books are so good The Deckers are a neat family.

How could the performance have been better?

less discriptive accounts of Gabes love life.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

yes some
