Publisher's summary

Los Angeles D.A. Rachel Knight is a tenacious, wise-cracking, and fiercely intelligent prosecutor in the city's most elite division. When her colleague, Jake, is found dead at a grisly crime scene, Rachel is shaken to the core. She must take over his toughest case: the assault of a young woman from a prominent family.

But she can't stop herself from digging deeper into Jake's death, a decision that exposes a world of power and violence and will have her risking her reputation - and her life - to find the truth.

With her tremendous expertise in the nuances of L.A. courts and crime, and with a vibrant ensemble cast of characters, Marcia Clark combines intimate detail, riotous humor, and visceral action in a debut thriller that marks the launch of a major new figure on the crime-writing scene.

it was okay

I've been listening to Marcia Clark's other series and enjoyed them. I thought I would give this one a try. i really like that Marcia Clark has been a DA and I like the spin she puts on the stories. what i don't enjoy is listening to watch the main character is going to wear every morning or eat every meal! and why is she (Rachel) always on a diet? maybe she (Rachel) should cut down on the booze and eat some real food. stop eating of her friends plates at least. it doesn't add anything to the story, i don't get it.

Chick Mystery

What did you like best about Guilt by Association? What did you like least?

Best: The community of workaholic women is an interesting dynamic.

Worst: dichotomy between the ADA complaining that she doesn't make very much money, how will she afford a new set of tires for the car; and eating out and bar drinking nearly every night, high consciousness about clothes, buying her friend cop dinner, drinks, etc.

Worst 2: the ADA does all the detecting and the detective seems to drive around in a car.

Did Guilt by Association inspire you to do anything?

Sop reading Marcia Clark

Any additional comments?

The book isn't bad, but it is very much written for a woman audience. Like a lot of modern mysteries, the story unfolds in layers. Just when you think the hole thing is solved, there is another layer to peel back.

EXCELLENT!

I'm usually willing to try out a new author's first offering, and this one is an absolute hit! Grabbed my attention with the first word and held it until the very last word. Ms. Clark has a smart, hip style of writing that is fun to read along with an excellent story line. I hope that she will continue putting out a couple of books a year that are as good as this one.

Guilty Pleasure

Marcia, please write another Rachel Knight story soon! I have read every one of your books, but this is my favorite. I love all the characters in this book and Ms. LaVoy does an excellent job of making them real. I especially like Rachel's gangbanger friend and I hope he continues to help her out. I wasn't sure what to expect from Marcia Clark as an author, but I have quickly become one of her biggest fans. Really enjoyable read.

Rachel Knight is Irreverant and a Workaholic

This is first in a series. Knight is a special trials DA who is all work and no play. This story focuses on her getting to the bottom of what happened to her colleague, Jake. He is found dead with a young boy in a cheap motel. The belief is that he was hooking up with the boy but Rachel doesn’t believe it. She is told to stay out of the way but she cant help herself. She and her police friend work together to find out the real story. This is written in the first person from Rachel’s view and is well done. Marcia Clark, as we know has experience in the DA’s office and knows how these investigations work. I listened in Audible and liked the narrator January LaVoy.

Wardrobe overload

Overall an entertaining story with decent character development. If as much effort had been spent on the rest of the story as was on excruciating wardrobe details every time our hero changed or got out of bed in the morning, it could have been a great book!

Not great but ok

Would you try another book from Marcia Clark and/or January LaVoy?

Maybe. But I think this book was too descriptive at times. That made me anxious to get on to another chapter.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most Interesting: The gang banger. Least interesting: The boozing and eating.

Which scene was your favorite?

when she was kidnapped.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

Marsha Clark will probably be a very good author. But I'm going to wait awhile before reading another one of her books.
