Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • THE BLOCKBUSTER JACK REACHER SERIES THAT INSPIRED TWO MAJOR MOTION PICTURES AND THE STREAMING SERIES REACHER

“High-powered, intricately wrought suspense.”—Janet Maslin, The New York Times

New York City. Two in the morning. A subway car heading uptown. Jack Reacher, plus five other passengers. Four are okay. The fifth isn’t. And if you think Reacher isn’t going to get involved . . . then you don’t know Jack.

Susan Mark, the fifth passenger, had a big secret, and her plain little life was being watched in Washington, and California, and Afghanistan—by dozens of people with one thing in common: They’re all lying to Reacher. A little. A lot. Or just enough to get him killed. A race has begun through the streets of Manhattan, a maze crowded with violent, skilled soldiers on all sides of a shadow war. For Jack Reacher, a man who trusts no one and likes it that way, the finish line comes when you finally get face-to-face and look your worst enemy in the eye.

“Propulsive . . . [Child is] an expert at ratcheting up tension.”—Los Angeles Times

“Hold on tight. . . . This novel will give you whiplash as you rabidly turn pages. . . . May be [Lee Child’s] best.”—USA Today

Take another thrill ride with Jack Reacher.

Critic reviews

“The ever-resourceful and vengeful Reacher takes on nearly a score of the bad guys in an exciting climax to an enthralling book . . . complete with cover-ups and numerous intriguing twists.”Library Journal (starred review)

“A superb New York novel . . . Child grounds his hero’s hard body and hard-drive brain in believable detail, and he sets the action against a precisely described landscape.”Booklist (starred review)

“All good thriller writers know how to build suspense and keep the pages turning, but only better ones deliver tight plots as well, and only the best allow the reader to match wits with both the hero and the author. Bestseller Child does all of that in spades. . . . [He] sets things up subtly and ingeniously, then lets Reacher use both strength and guile to find his way to the exciting climax.”Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Captivating

I kept wanting to listen to this book. The descriptions of events and moments made me feel as though I were present as the story unfolded. I highly recommend. Exciting

Excellent book Of the Jack Reacher Series

I think Dick Gill grows older in sync with Jack Reacher and his voice reflects the correct age, pace and in a way matureness of the character.
Good story, excellent rhythm,.
Can't wait for the next Lee Child book.

I love the Jack Reacher Series

Where does Gone Tomorrow rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The best Reacher ever. I was actually surprised at the end. That never happens.

Any additional comments?

I think I was so engrossed in the story that I didn't try to figure out who the killer was.

Standard Reacher - solving a suicide mystery

This book is standard Reacher. He stumbles upon what appears to be a female suicide bomber and this draws Reacher into a greater mystery which involves the NYPD, the feds, an aspiring politician and a terrorist gang. There were weaknesses in the story, most notably the blank of the underlying motivation for the major players. We intentionally never learn the ultimate “why.” Another weakness was how Reacher knew where the gang was hiding out in NYC - it just wasn’t a plausible explanation. And the third glaring weakness was Reacher’s inexplicable failure to replenish a certain item of his when he has a golden opportunity to do so. But, with these kind of stories you have to expect a certain amount of these flaws. Lee Child is a great storyteller and the pace moves quickly and you are never bored reading this book. Dick Hill is perfect as narrator.

4* For the series

I love these books. This one is the best of the few I have read. Happily, Child didn't use his "I said nothing" macro key quite as often as before. I know that these are fantasies, etc., but there are some totally too far out accidents and mistakes, things ignored and not followed, opportunities not plumbed. i.e. In this story, early on, much was made about the GPS tracking capabilities on cell phones. Near the height of the final action, Jack leaves the phone on for "hours," feeling and ignoring the vibration, etc... he should have been trackable.. stuff like that... but in all, terrific. getting better and better. Serious violence, delicately portrayed. Each of the Reacher stories contains a max of 2 horrible descriptions of sadism, and they are described in what is almost but not quite unbearable. Beyond that, they are almost G rated, but real "page turners." The end game fights are always a little too superhero-ish, but that is what this is... I really appreciate all the education packed into these stories: History, politics, technology, weather, engineering, trains, city layouts, very informative. I really, really like the hidden allusions to cultural (especially classic rock music). Keep 'em coming!

Not the best of Lee Child

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like Lee Child I would recommend it especially because the narrator is great but the story is just okay.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lee Child? Why or why not?

For now, I think I've had enough of Jack Reacher series.

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Dick Hill makes the story come alive and having gotten used to his voice it's as if Lee Child was telling me the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really.

You don't want to be Jack Reacher's enemy

This was the 3rd or 4th Jack Reacher book I listened to and it was up to par with the others. However I bet most listeners were like me and really wanted to get to the end to learn a key piece of information which was never divulged by the author. That was frustrating. The listen was enjoyable but without that information the overall plot didn't make a whole lot of sense.

Gone Tomorrow: Top 3 Best

QUALIFICATION:
In the year 2005 CE, I read a book called "One Shot," by Lee Child (series book #9). "One Shot" introduced me to the intellectually vulpine, overtly judicious, and deliberately vagrant nature of Mr. Child's unassuming heroic protagonist, Jack Reacher. Since 2005, I've read and/or listened to every book in the Reacher series.

REVIEW:
Each book in the series has a similar story arc, that's a given; however, each book also has its own unique and specific entertainment value. Some readers prefer Reacher's fists and fighting skills, while others prefer his thoughts and descriptive details. Regardless, if you're a fan of Jack Reacher, every book is still a good read (to be fair, there were definitely a couple duds).

"Gone Tomorrow," like "One Shot" and "Killing Floor," is superb. There's a perfect balance of violence, mystery, (appropriate) cliffhangers, character development, head butting, fist punching, H&K sharp shooting, and a masterful detailed description of New York City. And adding the extra special spicy sauce to an already phenomenal mix is Dick Hill...he is Jack Reacher, of course, but "Gone Tomorrow" is narrated from the 1st person, so he really IS Jack Reacher in this book!

VERDICT:
Buy this book!! Use a credit for this book!! Steal this book!! BamBamBam 👊🏽

Dick Hill rocks!

I've really gotten into the whole jack reacher series and think Lee Child hit the jack pot with this character. That said, dick hill brings jack to life and when jack if in a tight spot Dick puts you right there, feeling it too. I would listen to anything he reads and when I'm finished with the Jack Reacher series I'll see what else Lee Child has done.
