Publisher's summary

There are those who walk among us who are no longer alive, but not yet crossed over. They seek retribution…vengeance…to warn. Among the living, few intuit their presence.

Katie MacDonald is one who can.

As she’s drawn deeper and deeper into a gruesome years-old murder, whispered warnings from a spectral friend become more and more insistent. But Katie must uncover the truth: could David Beckett really be guilty of his fiancée’s murder?

Worse – the body count’s rising on the Island of Bones, and the dead seem to be reenacting some macabre tableaux from history. The danger is increasing by the moment – especially as Katie finds herself irresistibly drawn to David, who may be responsible for more than just one killing.

She can see Ghosts!

I quite enjoyed reading this book. I think the author did a great job in developing the relationships of people who have known each other since childhood. Then, they were torn apart by a gruesome murder that took place ten years prior to the start of this book. Now, they come together and do not know who can, or cannot, be trusted. The narrator does a great job and I am very glad I had a chance to read/listen to this book.

I did laugh out loud several times while reading this book. When you have a long dead pirate...excuse me "privateer" for a ghost who is coming into his own power...saying rude things about others and scaring them as well, it makes for a lot of fun and humor admist the mystery. That sort of thing makes me very happy when I read a story.

I will also say that I had no idea what Fantasy Fest was until I read this book...if it truly exists, it is interesting, but not my cup of tea. However, I do enjoy books that allow me to experience things like this. Would I like to visit Key West based on this story? YES....just not during Fantasy Fest - LOL!

I will mention that I read the reviews of other listeners before I wrote this review. While a couple were positive, some were also negative. I, personally, was pleased and have listened to the book several times now. I do recommend the book and hope that you will give the series a try.

interesting story

Particularly enjoyed the narrator. It was an interesting story where the supernatural ghost side wasn't overplayed, and had a more realistic feel to it.

Horrible Narration

I think I would have enjoyed this book if I’d have read it, however, the narrator completely destroys it! It’s like she’s reading a Scooby Doo Mystery, which would be great if this was a child’s book, but a love scene? Seriously don’t waste a credit...

Take it or Leave it

When I started this listen, I thought I was getting a history lesson. I am sure that would have been more interesting in print and it did pertain to the story but it just doesn't carry over as well into an audio. I was also annoyed by all the "he said, she said" words. Not the dialogue, but the actual words being said as the conversation switches back and forth. It would have been better if the voices were distinct enough that that was unnecessary.
It was a good storyline and I did not guess the culprit right away, but I had it before he was revealed.

I will read the rest, just cause I don't like to leave a series unfinished. But it's not something I'll be returning to for a second listen.

It's getting 3 stars across the board because it was not bad, just not exciting. But then again I just read S King, so maybe after coming off that, it would take something amazing to compare....

Good ghost story

I love Heather Graham books. They have just the right touch of paranormal and usually a nice romance story also. GhostShadow is no exception. I also liked all the Key West history. It will make you want to go there even though I admit I thought it was a creepy place the only time I was there. Maybe I will have a better attitude if I go back after reading this book. The narration was good also. A good murder mystery ghost story.

If you like Key West you will appreciate this book

What did you love best about Ghost Shadow?

The historical information provided and that the scene and places in the book were based on facts; having visited Key West I could picture the story clearly in my mind. It added another level of enjoyment.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Kept me guessing - enjoyed the characters enough to read the second in the series.

What three words best describe Angela Dawe’s performance?

average vocal performance of various characters

Any additional comments?

This book is a good Beach Read/Listen - easy to follow and enjoy.

Enjoyable Read

This was an enjoyable story. unfortunately I guessed who it was right off the bat. That did not detract from story, which tells you it was well written.

Good, not great.

Ok. I thought this was a good book to listen to. I can't really tell if I am picky, or if the book is kind of predictable by the amount of details given along the way. I would like to read the continuation of the series, but I wouldn't go as eager. This is not the kind of book that has a cliffhanger or anything.
The scenes of love/sex between David and Katie could be hotter. I mean, you don't get the time to appreciate the moment. I don't feel like I got to know the characters or get involved with them. It was a little too fast.
Yes, they are cute together, no, I didn't feel like I wanted to listen to it all in one sitting.
I think it felt a little similar to that 'Ghost Whisperer' TV show. The ghost principles are a little similar... I felt like a little rip off, but I don't know which one came first, the book or the show...
Maybe this is just just because I am spiritistic and I believe there is more to ghosts and afterlife than what was presented in this book, but I thought the concept was a little weak.
But if you like ghost stories and have no strong beliefs or concepts on that matter, you will find this book intriguing in the least.
Angela Dawes was a good narrator. Good job.
