Publisher's summary

Owning a restaurant is as crazy for Nicky Landry as an alcoholic owning a bar. But despite having to cram herself into a body shaper to look decent in a dress, life is pretty good. She's throwing the party of the year for her graduating doctor boyfriend, Rob, who she's sure is going to propose - until his new girlfriend shows up at the party.

After ordering Rob to get his stuff out of her house and get lost, Nicky finds him faceup with her expensive Chroma knife sticking right out of his cheating heart.

As the prime suspect, Nicky is in hot water. And no matter how hard she tries to clear her name, her problems only mount. She's convinced she can solve the murder - if only she can figure out the identity of the skinny person seen walking away with Rob after the party.

Getting "Skinny" won't be easy for Nicky, but she never imagined it would be life or death….

Liked the story - but not crazy about the narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator and the editing. The quality of the recording and editing was poor compared to other audiobooks. I could hear where the recording had been edited. The volume of the narrator was not consistent. At times I could hear a humming noise in the background which was distracting. Except that I wanted to hear what was going to happen in the story, I came very close to turning off the book several times.

What didn’t you like about Holly Fielding’s performance?

It was very hard to distinguish between the different characters - very monotone reading. I didn't feel that the narrator became the characters.

Do you think Getting Skinny needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I think this could be the start of a series of mysteries. I like the idea of a mystery solving chef.

Any additional comments?

I probably won't listen to another book featuring this narrator.

A very good start

This is a very good start to what I hope will be a great series. The characters are likable and realistic. The plot very entertaining. The two lead characters get into Lucy and Ethal like trouble and predictably, the best friend says, tell the truth just don't say I was there. This book is funny and heart felt. I hope I won't have to wait until next year for the next book in this series.

TEDIOUS

The main character is whiny and needy, the plot incredibly boring, don't waste your credit
