    "A very fun read!"

Free Fire is the best of the three Joe Pickett novels I've "read" so far. The plot is complex, yet not convoluted. The characters act believably. Most of all, it's a fun read.

"Worth a Read, But Not His Best"

I am a real fan of C J Box, but this story was a bit far-fetched, compared to his normal plots. The whole conspiracy thing, the corrupt lawyer, the rivalry within and between agencies, the exploited legal loophole, the undercurrent between Joe and the female officer, was somehow a bit off the mark. Those who regularly read Box will enjoy it, but I wouldn't recommend this for a first-time Box reader. So many of his are better.

"Yellowstone will never look the same to you"

I loved all the Joe Pickett novels, and this is a favorite; The description of the inner structure of the lodge is great; however, this story isn't for the even moderately squeamish. You'll never look at a hot springs quite the same way again, and the exit roads from Yellowstone can be lonely and dark....

    "Where is Nate's voice?"
What did you love best about Free Fire?

I loved that Joe got to try something new

What three words best describe David Chandler’s voice?

I really like David Chandler and that he has been reading for all of the Joe Pickett stories...my only complaint is that he changed his voice for Nate! He voice in the previous books was much more recognizable and I liked the consistency in the past.

    "Pretty good"

It was pretty good overall. It did drag in a couple of areas and the ending was flat. I do like CJ Box and will continue to listen to his books.

"Experience Yellowstone in a new way!"

Having visited Yellowstone National Park a few times over the years, and most recently just two years ago, the park's landmarks were firmly in mind as I listened to Joe Picket navigate the roads and buildings. This is a classic example of the author making the setting a character in itself, and doing it well. Great plot and storytelling.

    "Yellowstone National Park!"

I had been to Yellowstone National Park several times and C.J. Box took me back there with the descriptions of the lodge, the mud springs, Old Faithful etc. The characters all mesh nicely in the book and he presented a very nice story. I like that he brings back good ol' Nate. I love his character! Wasn't a predictable plot and was an enjoyable listen. I have read all of the Joe Pickett books in sequence so far. Looking forward to all of them.

"One of the best Joe Pickett Novels ever!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Free Fire to be better than the print version?

It amazes me how CJ Box can just put you in the setting of Yellowstone Park. I could just imagine the geysers and hotpots. He builds the suspense little by little and you never know who's the bad guys until the very end. I couldn't put it down.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Free Fire?

As with all C.J. Box's novel, the narration is great. Joe Pickett is a man of few words.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The description of the Old Yellowstone Inn is superb. I can't wait to visit Yellowstone this fall.

"Not a fan of the narrator"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would have enjoyed this, and other CJ Box books, with a different narrator. I can't help but get the feeling he's condescending in his approach and that the characters are all sniveling twits, at least that's how I feel while listening. I have the book in Whispersync and enjoy reading on the Kindle and then I groan through the Audible.
