Love the story!!

Dear Mr. James,

A thousand thanks for all the wonderful efforts you’ve turned out in these books! They’re such fun!

The story was really entertaining! On the other hand, in the audio books Charlie needs to be read by a man, as do all the male characters. Of course, Miss/Mrs Bennett has a very nice voice indeed for the female characters. Would it really have cost so awfully much more to split it? (This, by the way, applies to all books in this series.)

Diesel and Dante are delightful, delectable and deliriously entertaining!! I’ve enjoyed every one of this series so far and look forward to others. Maybe you could put Dante a little more deeply into the plot? He needn’t eclipse Diesel, naturally, but poodles are an exceptionally intelligent breed no matter the size. Seems a shame for him to go to waste.

I simply adore Kanisha and Azalea! Good for each of them for sticking to her guns and doing what she enjoys! (One of my favorite jobs has been as a housekeeper, and I have never felt demeaned by it. I have a college education and I’ve done housekeeping because I like it.) Seems to me Azalea is a very sensible, intelligent lady.

Please, Mr. James & friends, be very careful of what you feed your dogs, cats and other pets in real life! Your vet or other reliable info is a much better guide, of course, than these books. Thankfully these are fiction, not advice on pet feeding.

Great series

Althea College’s new writer in residence was born locally. Librarian Charlie Harris’s daughter surprises him by showing up to teach a semester of acting. Turns out the writer is a former boyfriend. When he’s found dead the whole family are threatened. Great narration and series.

This was an unusual cozy IMO

The reason I find this audiobook unusual is the language. It has a LOT of slang, for a cozy, in the first half of the book. Almost to the point of being offensive. I muddled through because I like the series, but if you have sensitive ears, be warned. Otherwise I liked the book. There is not only one crime to solve and things get very close to home on more than one occasion for our librarian and his family. The cat Diesel is delightful as always! Charlie the librarian is portrayed by a female voice which is still hard to get used to, but the characters are really starting to come together as you learn how they fit into the story line and develop, with recurring parts to the story. I hope to enjoy the next book in this series!

Miranda James

I am not an author so my review is just about the story. I really enjoy reading about Charlie Harris and his cat Diesel - Miranda James has a fun sense of humor and a very real understanding about people. This book is a great read - perfect for vacations, reading in front of the fireplace and/or just sitting anywhere to read and enjoy.

Charlie, Diesel and a Rotten Playwright

When Charlie and Diesel return home from the library to find Laura home from California, they are both pleasantly surprised. She is happy to be back in Athena, Mississippi for a while and is subbing at the college while another professor is out. The only problem is that her old boyfriend, playwright Connor Lawton got her the job. He is nobody's friend, with his foul mood and hateful tongue, but it seems like everyone has to bear with his antics as they rehearse his latest production . . . that is, until he is found murdered. With his daughter, Laura the main suspect, Charlie is anxious to find the real killer. This series has me hooked. I love Azalea, Charlie's housekeeper, who has been around forever, and keeps Charlie well fed . . . and in line. 😂 And then there's Azalea's daughter, Deputy Kanesha Berry, who brooks no foolishness when it comes to police investigations . . . that is unless she has to deal with her mother. 😉 The investigation takes a myriad of twists and turns, putting them all in danger leading to a very satisfying conclusion (with a lot of fun and excitment in between) that was well worth the wait!
