Publisher's summary

My name is Dr. Adeline Glen. Due to a genetic condition, I can’t feel pain. I never have. I never will.

The last thing Boston Detective D. D. Warren remembers is walking the crime scene after dark. Then, a creaking floorboard, a low voice crooning in her ear… She is later told she managed to discharge her weapon three times. All she knows is that she is seriously injured, unable to move her left arm, unable to return to work.

My sister is Shana Day, a notorious murderer who first killed at fourteen. Incarcerated for thirty years, she has now murdered more people while in prison than she did as a free woman.

Six weeks later, a second woman is discovered murdered in her own bed, her room containing the same calling cards from a previous crime scene: A bottle of champagne and a single red rose. The only person who may have seen the killer: Detective D. D. Warren, who still can’t lift her child, load her gun, or recall a single detail from the night that may have cost her everything.

Our father was Harry Day, an infamous serial killer who buried young women beneath the floor of our home. He has been dead for forty years. Except the Rose Killer knows things about my father he shouldn’t. My sister claims she can help catch him. I think just because I can’t feel pain doesn’t mean my family can’t hurt me.

D.D. may not be back on the job, but she is back on the hunt. Because the Rose Killer isn’t just targeting lone women, he is targeting D.D. And D.D. knows there is only one way to take him down: Fear nothing.

Another good book by Lisa Gardner

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Anyone who likes Lisa Gardner's style and the D D Warren series will not be disappointed

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES

Any additional comments?

I look forward to everyone of the books in this series. The protagonist in this story is very sad and has such a defeatist attitude through out you can see early on that the ending is not going to be a happy one, although I did hope right up until the epilogue. I won't say anymore as I don't want to spoil this for any other readers. Kirsten Potter as always did a great job. Her range of voices is impressive and the characters are easily differentiated. Looking forward to the next...

Gardner NEVER disappoints!

What made the experience of listening to Fear Nothing the most enjoyable?

Gardner has a talent for grabbing you at the first word and DARING you to put the book down. Impossible. I wish she could write more books per year, but alas, her books are like cake. They both have to go through stages to become awesome!

What did you like best about this story?

I liked many things. But, I don't like spoilers, so lets just say...worth reading!

Which character – as performed by Kirsten Potter – was your favorite?

Shana Day

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and would have, if sleep hadn't been necessary.

Baffling Negative Reviews

Lisa Gardner writes dark, gritty, twisted, clever novels. I see a lot of negative reviews, about how unpleasant some sections of the book are. Personally, I wasn't that bothered. However, If you're looking for a spunky-fun romp written by a totally spunky-fun chick, then this is not the book for you. Let me suggest something with cartoons on the cover, that rhymes. Like, I dunno, "Two Cats and the Rascally Rats" or maybe "A Cat, A Bean, and the Killer Jeans: An Abby Spunkerton Adventure".

If, on the other hand, you are looking for an adult exploration of the underbelly of the human psyche, Lisa Gardner is for you.

How Can Lisa Gardner Keep Topping Herself?!

What did you love best about Fear Nothing?

OMG! Dr. Adeline Glen, the psychiatrist who is supposed to help severely injured hard-boiled Sgt. D.D. Warren deal with her pain! What a history! The AMAZING physical handicap of NOT being able to feel pain - that MOST people would originally think is a blessing. Plus, she's the daughter of serial killer Harry Day & sister of Shana, is a sociopath in jail for life, after being tried for murder as an adult at 14. And Dr. Glen has her own guilty secret! All this while the Rose Killer (Harry Day) appears to be operating again and D.D. is supposed to be off-duty healing, but you know how likely it is for her to take time off....

What did you like best about this story?

Dr. Glen's disability - NOT being able to feel pain and how that can put your life in danger every day. Really thought-provoking. Second: the fascinating interplay between the sisters. Third: D.D.'s determination to (literally) work thru the pain.

Have you listened to any of Kirsten Potter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

"Read" all the D.D. Warren on audio. Always great.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Daddy was a sadistic serial killer who played pain games at home but one child couldn't feel pain & one could. Guess how that worked out?

Any additional comments?

WOW. I just don't think Lisa Gardner will ever be able to top this. SPECTACULAR. I love almost all of her books. LOVED the Pierce Quincy family "profiler" series (FBI/GBI). Didn't like Alone, the first D.D. Warren with Bobby Dodge -- did NOT like him -- but the second with him was much better. The Neighbor was excellent. Live to Tell touched my heart in so many ways I didn't care if the identity of the killer wasn't a big mystery; the story of the mother trying to care for her sociopathic son (very much like subsequent "I am Adam Lanza's Mother" letter) blew me away. I was also devastated with the little cat girl disappeared; loved this character and loved the nurse. Love You More was another great mystery, as was Catch Me. Touch and Go was a little disappointing - and this isn't D.D. Warren but Tessa Leone -- a GREAT character I'd love to see more of -- from Love You More.

Loved it, talk about a twisting end, not what I thought. Had different ending in mind but was thrilled with this book, keeps a person intrigued.
