Publisher's summary

In Extinction Machine, the fifth Joe Ledger book by Jonathan Maberry, the DMS must go up against someone—or something—in search of new technology that could bring about world war

The President of the United States vanishes from the White House.

A top-secret prototype stealth fighter is destroyed during a test flight. Witnesses on the ground say that it was shot down by a craft that immediately vanished at impossible speeds.

All over the world reports of UFOs are increasing at an alarming rate.
And in a remote fossil dig in China dinosaur hunters have found something that is definitely not of this earth. There are rumors of alien-human hybrids living among us.
Joe Ledger and the Department of Military Sciences rush headlong into the heat of the world's strangest and deadliest arms race, because the global race to recover and retro-engineer alien technologies has just hit a snag. Someone—or something--wants that technology back.

Critic reviews

“The Ledger novels are exciting sf thrillers that just happen to involve stuff that's a little out there (and Joe himself is a realistically portrayed soldier who, from time to time, has a hard time dealing with the weirdnesses that surround him). Readers familiar with the series will need no prodding to check this new one out, and newcomers, immediately upon finishing the book, will want to hunt down the earlier installments.” —Booklist, starred review

Brilliantly written and performed

Once again, the combination of Mayberry's voice and Porter's delivery makes my two hour car ride twice a week go by in a flash. I have actually laughed out loud at times as a result of Porter's humor and I have held my breath while Mayberry reaches the pinnacles. Very intelligent and entertaining fiction. I am hooked.

Again & again

Crazy plot, crazier villains & absolutely the craziest Joe Ledger for whom this part was made.
Mayberry's books are truly pure entertainment ,especially if you can live in his insane world of wierd people who all seem to want to conquer the world.
Joe Ledger is not a character that will surprise you. He does what he does & after a few books you come to expect this determined, crazy, killer, protector, hero character.
Kudos to Ray Porter for another well portrayed novel.
Onward & forward Joe Ledger!!

Extinction Machine

Jonathan Maberry has become one of my favorite authors. His charters are full of life the way he describes them. The detail is all there it's like I'm watching a movie in my mind when listening to his books. Ray Porter voice is the only voice I want to hear his voice is Joe ledger. Must read you will not be disappointed.

Love the series, but this is weakest entry so far.

I love the direction the series is going still keeping it a scifi military action hero story. Spoilers

I felt like Joe's love interest in this book was just thrown in haphazardly. The bound was way to quick and sudden and deep. the ending part also felted rushed to me, love the series just a weak entry

Give me more!

I just love these books. They are suspenseful and action packed, very similar to an action movie but it comes alive in your head. I suck up these books so fast that I was very disappointed when I got to the end of the series and have to wait for the next one! I left a much more detailed review about the first book, and since I have read the whole series it has only gotten better. I could read 100 of these and not lose interest!
