Publisher's summary

Includes a teaser excerpt from Capitol Murder, the third book in the Washington Trilogy!

The first book in Phillip Margolin’s New York Times best-selling Washington Trilogy, a powerful tale of murder that snakes its way through Washington, D.C.'s halls of power, leading straight to the White House and the most powerful office on earth.

When private detective Dana Cutler is hired by an attorney with powerful political connections, the assignment seems simple enough: follow a pretty college student named Charlotte Walsh and report on where she goes and whom she sees. But then the unexpected happens. One night, Cutler follows Walsh to a secret meeting with Christopher Farrington, the president of the United States. The following morning, Walsh's dead body shows up and Cutler has to run for her life.

In Oregon, Brad Miller, a junior associate in a huge law firm is working on the appeal of a convicted serial killer. Clarence Little, now on death row, claims he was framed for the murder of a teenager who, at the time of her death, worked for the then governor, Christopher Farrington. Suddenly, a small-time private eye and a fledgling lawyer find themselves in possession of evidence that suggests that someone in the White House is a murderer. Their only problem? Staying alive long enough to prove it.

Executive Privilege, with its nonstop action, unforgettable characters, and edge-of-your-seat suspense, proves once again that Phillip Margolin—whose work has been hailed as "frighteningly plausible" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) and "twisted and brilliant" (Chicago Tribune)—belongs in the top echelon of thriller writers.

Politics and Murders

This is a story involving politics and murderers in high places. I began to figure out the potential ending (who done it) about midway through but the story was suspenseful enough that I kept listening. While listening to the story, I kept thinking that I wanted to know more about the character Cutler which was eventually provided in the last few chapters. Cutler is a badass woman! and is the character I liked the most even before I was given her backstory. There are a lot of characters in this story which were developed well enough that I could imagine what most looked like. I liked the narrator but he had the distracting habit of using long pauses between paragraphs (? I think!). I think the editors could have cleared up these long pauses they were way tooooo noticeable! A good listen, I would recommend.

Not my favorite genre . .

Can’t remember why I bought this book. I wouldn’t classify it as a page turner although there were some nice twists and turns in it. If I were to really like a mystery thriller, it would have to suck me in so that I couldn’t wait to get back to it every day, and this one just never did. It isn’t my favorite genre so I’ll just leave it at that.

fast paced and exciting

If you want a good book to listen to that is fast paced and exciting, this is it. It is somewhat predictable but it's read well and keeps you going until the end.

Exciting Thriller

Loved this audio book and its narrator. It's one of those stories that is hard to stop listening to. It starts out with excitement and builds from there. The first protagonist is a woman with a heart rending history which has made her tough and resilient yet still able to be compassionate when necessary. The second protagonist is an innocent young man who gets caught up in the sordid drama, and learns the hard way how corrupt some powerful individuals can be.
Margolin weaves an intriguing mystery in this story with many characters, twists and turns. The amazing thing about all the different characters and the twists is that you're able to still to follow the story without getting lost.

New Author I am Following

Where does Executive Privilege rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is just the kind of book I like to hear while driving or walking my dogs. It is full of great characters that you want to still follow after the book ends. I think Margolin will rank above Harlan Coban but below Baldacci in my favorite listens.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot is full of turns and twists and had me wearing my iPod around the house after I was done driving or walking. I couldn't wait to find out what happened. I switched to listening to Audible downloads on an iPad for this very reason. I don't have to sit in my car listening to the CD player and I can listen while walking.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Davis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I can't remember how many of Jonathan Davis performances I have heard. He is perfect for the thriller genre. His female characters don't bother me like some other readers.

Entertaining

I have always been a big fan of Phillip Margolin way back when audiobooks first became popular. He writes a story that keeps you interested without having to work too hard to keep focused. I did like the narrator but felt like there were too many long pauses between sentences. The story could have been much shorter without them. Although I would have liked Margolin to have developed Cutler and Miller's characters more, I most enjoyed FBI agent Evans. I can't say I was extremely surprised by the ending, but I did very much enjoy this novel and look forward to his next one.

Pretty Good Story

I liked it more than I expected. Decent story that kept moving. A bit comical at times.....A bit unbelieveable at others... but entertaining nonetheless.
