Publisher's summary

Debt of Honor ends as Jack Ryan is confirmed vice president minutes before a mammoth act of terrorism kills the President, most of his cabinet, all but a few members of Congress, the entire Supreme Court and all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Suddenly Ryan is President, which is where Executive Orders begins.

Ryan's responsibilities crush in on him. Where should he begin? He must calm a nation, pacify world leaders, arrange a massive funeral -- while he rebuilds a government as quickly as possible. But that's not all. Enemies abroad and at home see opportunities, and they'll soon present President Ryan with an unimaginable crisis. How will he tackle his greatest challenge ever?

Critic reviews

"Holmes writes with an easy warmth about kind people who are trying their best but messing things up anyway.... A warm and lovely romance, perfect for readers of Rainbow Rowell and Louise Miller.” (Kirkus Reviews [starred review])

“The charm of Holmes’ novel comes not only from a genuine friendship between Evvie and Dean that develops into a sweet romance but also from watching amiable Evvie stumble through the process of finding herself in a realistic way. A warm and funny book that will utterly captivate fans of Abbi Waxman and Taylor Jenkins Reid.” (Booklist [starred review])

“Holmes’ debut charms, as a young widow and a former Major League pitcher learn to begin again.... At times deeply emotional yet sometimes extremely humorous, this is a satisfying crowd-pleaser.” (Publishers Weekly)

EPIC

This book is a complex examination of the simply honorable character, Jack Ryan. Damn public opinion, do what is right. This is full of sub plots of espionage and evil. The end result is justice true, American style. Must listen!

Loved it....soo good!

I've read almost all of Clancy's books, but this one has to be his best! His detailed knowledge of the job roles and processes blew me away. An example is how he describes the role of each crew member in an M1A1 tank in combat and the interaction was so descriptive I was reliving it myself. (As a former tank crewman,) I was impressed at how well he knew just how we interacted as a crew! This made the book so detailed and enveloped me I kept waiting to hear of the process on the news channel! Unreal! Excellent work and detail! The story was done very well how it intertwined around the characters was great. It's a very long book but to tell this story as only Clancy does requires it to be this long! Thank you Mr. Clancy

Tom Clancy's Atlas Shrugged

Hey listen, I've read all of the Ryanverse, was a big fan back in the day. But reading this at age 20 and then again at 41, it hits different. It's a lot of wishful thinking, US Government as he *hoped* it would one day be. I wonder what he'd think of the years 2016-2020.

Too long, but still good

Could have been a little shorter, but still premium Clancy. I Won't re-read, but I wouldn't tell someone to skip it.

The story line about the disease, it mirrors today

The disease forced upon the people of the US, the way it was handled, mirrors what happened with Covid 19. I believe. this latest bioweapon was our bioweapon, that was sent to Wuhan, for further development. I believe the spread of Covid 19, was an inside job. Just my honest opinion.

Many brilliant and relevant moments in this book.

There are many important and relevant concepts and moments regarding the nature of the American republic in this book. We are reminded that we do not live in a mobocracy and that we have by and large surrendered our self-determinism and individual freedoms to an elite political ruling class and their propagandist toadies in the legacy media, while we've increasingly embraced the concentration of power into a centralized bureaucracy never endorsed by the founders of this nation. This bureaucracy tends to blur and even erase the notion of Separation of Powers enshrined in our Constitution.

Story was deep and detailed, but...

the story went in to more detail than I was ready for and the last 3rd of the book was the best part. however, the narrator made me want to take a nap
