Publisher's summary

Eve Duncan’s mission in life is to bring closure to the families who have experienced the agony of a missing child. As a forensic sculptor, she is able to piece together bones, create a face, and match a name to a child who would have otherwise gone unidentified. Eve is brilliant, driven, and tormented - because her own daughter, Bonnie, was taken from her years ago. Now, with the help of CIA agent Catherine Ling, a startling piece of evidence is uncovered in the quest to find Bonnie, leading to a connection that had been all but buried. Catherine challenges Eve with a name: John Gallo, a man from Eve’s own past, seemingly raised from the dead, whose whereabouts are unknown. Could Gallo be the missing piece to the puzzle that has haunted Eve for years? Why was he in Atlanta just before Bonnie’s disappearance? And what kind of darkness was he hiding? With a brilliant narrative that exposes Eve Duncan’s early life, exploring her history and motivations like no other novel before, Eve reveals long-guarded secrets and is guaranteed to keep Johansen fans holding their breath for more.

Good story

What did you like about this audiobook?

I enjoyed the readers voice. The people in the story moved me emotionally with their individual issues. Suspense was scattered throughout the book.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Romance and mystery is my favorite combo. When I thought it was getting predictable it was not. It was interesting to see how different characters handled stress and life problems.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

Yes. There is smooth traction through time and character interaction.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Nothing

Do you have any additional comments?

Eve

I thought Eve was very good. I especially love Jennifer's narration. She is absolutely perfect for this kind of reading. She keeps one on the edge of their seat and her narration is just absolutely wonderful! I really Like Iris's books on Eve Duncan and her other characters connected with Eve. Adding Catherine Ling was an added bonus to the Eve Duncan series.

Get to the point already.. with a different reader

What did you like best about Eve? What did you like least?

It took so darn long to reach a simple conclusion - so much repeating of lines, and story parts...

What didn’t you like about Jennifer Van Dyck’s performance?

I have discontinued listening to ANY book of which she reads... she ends every word with an extra long sssssssssssssssssss.. Yessssssssssssssss.... bout drives me nutz. Just tell the story - without so much drama. We are listeners that want to hear the story and reach our own conclusions, without the reader making the characters worse then they are. Sorry Jennifer - just not a fan.

Any additional comments?

I won't be finishing the rest - Bonnie or Joe... I'll read the reviews and learn the endings!

Dont waste your time or book credit on this one!

I completely agree with the other reviews, and wish I had waited to read them before I picked up this disappointing book. The narrator's voice was dreadful, the plot unremarkeable, best left on the shelf!

2nd half is much better!

The narrator isn't great. Her voice gets very whiny and it started to grate on me. The story drags through the past but finally picks up with the present day drama in the 2nd half and is ok until the end.

Detached

Would you try another book from Iris Johansen and/or Jennifer Van Dyck?

Probably not

Would you ever listen to anything by Iris Johansen again?

Her performance was not the main problem that I had with the book

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No

Any additional comments?

It seemed that the story wasn't complete. It skipped times in Eve's life and didn't make sense

Lame

I have follow the Eve Duncan series and thoroughly enjoyed it. This book however was too much. How stupid can such an intelligent woman be. At some points I wanted to fast forward and get it over with. I'm guessing and hoping Joe is not dead. Readers want to see the action and thrill again. I bought the book because even with the negative reviews I'm still a fan.
