Publisher's summary

In 1993, Marie Gesto disappeared after walking out of a supermarket. Harry Bosch worked the case but couldn't crack it, and the 22-year-old was never found. Now, more than a decade later, with the Gesto file still on his desk, Bosch gets a call from the district attorney. A man accused of two heinous murders is willing to come clean about several others, including the killing of Marie Gesto.

Taking the confession of the man he has sought and hated for 13 years is bad enough. Discovering that he missed a clue back in 1993 that could have stopped nine other murders may just be the straw that breaks Harry Bosch.

Impressed? Ace detective Harry Bosch is also on the case in other exciting Michael Connelly crime-fiction novels.

Critic reviews

"Superior crime fiction, as suspenseful as it is psychologically acute." (Booklist)

"Smooth prose and plausible characters, even the secondary figures, elevate this several notches above the standard cop vs. serial-killer thriller." (Publishers Weekly)

Liked it, but...

Where does Echo Park: Harry Bosch Series, Book 12 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

While I liked the premise of the story, but found Rachel to be a bit unbelievable at times. A good profiler, but she seemed rather needy as a girlfriend and, as an FBI agent, a bit wimpy when it came to being Bosch's backup at the crime scene.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the character of Bosch and how he works the "puzzle" of a crime.

Any additional comments?

While I really enjoy the Bosh series, at times Harry's "rebel mode" gets a little tiresome.

He Remains at the Top

Michael Connelly remains at the top. He is consistently one of the best selling mystery authors for a reason. The narration is very good. This is how a mystery should be written with numerous twists and red herrings. Connelly is the best at describing the cop world with all the associated conflicts. Harry conducts himself beyond what most cops would do in similar situations. You must understand Harry. You must understand this is a work of fiction. I never lost interest despite having read the book a year ago. Listen to the entire book before you make judgment.

Echo Park

Any additional comments?

Author Michael Connelly, narrator Len Cariou, the unabridged audiobook version of Echo Park is eleven hours of listening. 2006 publication by Hachete Audio. Book 12 in the Harry Bosch Series.

A district attorney, deep into an election season, calls on Harry Bosch to validate the confessions of a serial killer. One of the killings has haunted Harry for thirteen years, a case he never solved. Harry will finally be able to tell the parents he has found their daughter’s body. Slam-dunk, right?

Not so fast. Suspects galore, good cops, bad cops, thrills and chills!

What I liked? The who-done-it isn’t the slam-dunk it should be - we’re deep into a cold case mystery, always a fun read. Harry's acerbic, deep-thinker wit, his type A loner persona, his soft spot for the victims and their families. Connelly has created a wonderful character that has been fodder for many of his books, a movie, and most recently a television series.

What I didn’t like - can’t think of anything. This is a typical police procedural, very listenable, good plot and characters.

Len Cariou is the voice of Harry Bosch, does a terrific job. I’ve got hundreds of audiobooks and I can’t imagine anyone else reading the Harry Bosch Series. He’s just great. If you’re a fan of Blue Bloods, you know who he is - the family patriarch who at the end of most episodes is proffering his wisdom at the head of the family dinner table.

If you’re familiar with Harry Bosch, a fan of Michael Connelly, you’ll enjoy. Echo Park fits into the series well.

Another great one by Michael Connelly

A very good, solid read, crafted well and with good, logical action and solid plot structure. Harry Bosch comes off as a caring but relentless searcher for truth, using facts and drawing logical conclusions based upon them to seek out and contain a deranged killer. Fighting inside political hacks and getting to the truth to get into the mindset of an insane killer, the novel moves with action and intelligence to solve and stop crimes. A good read from start to finish.
