Publisher's summary

In 1993, Marie Gesto disappeared after walking out of a supermarket. Harry Bosch worked the case but couldn't crack it, and the 22-year-old was never found. Now, more than a decade later, with the Gesto file still on his desk, Bosch gets a call from the district attorney. A man accused of two heinous murders is willing to come clean about several others, including the killing of Marie Gesto.

Taking the confession of the man he has sought and hated for 13 years is bad enough. Discovering that he missed a clue back in 1993 that could have stopped nine other murders may just be the straw that breaks Harry Bosch.

Impressed? Ace detective Harry Bosch is also on the case in other exciting Michael Connelly crime-fiction novels.

Critic reviews

"Superior crime fiction, as suspenseful as it is psychologically acute." (Booklist)

"Smooth prose and plausible characters, even the secondary figures, elevate this several notches above the standard cop vs. serial-killer thriller." (Publishers Weekly)

well done

I have read all of the Bosch books and find this one among the best. Well written and gripping, keeps you puzzling with the detective over the next step. Great read.

WARNING!: Bosch series habit forming.

I found myself rewinding and re-listening to numerous sections. Many authors will telegraph what lies ahead, maybe to show you that they intended to bring this out or that out, it was all part of the plan. But in this book, it's one surprise after another, but Bosch makes discoveries because he is tenacious and keep his eyes open and on the prize.

Great!

Another enjoyable, suspenseful book from a master of the genre. The plot twists were good and kept me guessing right up to the end. The only dissapointment is that now I have finished it and I have to wait months for his next book.

The determination of Bosch

The uncompromising detective’s relentless pursuit of justice and loyalty to his partner. Clearly a typical Bosch story.

Echo Park

This book was well worth the wait, it has all of the best of Harry Bosch. This had twists and turns that were completely unexpected and kept you on the edge until the last minute. I love all of Michael Connelly's books and this was just as close to perfect as they come. Harry is a great, flawed character that is so real you believe everything that happens to him and end up wishing for more.

Had me, then lost me, then had me again...

Great listen, though a little tough to keep up with some of the twists and turns. Overall a solid book to listen too, definitely worth listening to or reading. This really makes my drive to and from work much more enjoyable.

A Truly Haunting Mystery

Any additional comments?

I've read almost all of Connelly's work at this point. He's a remarkable writer that can draw you into any of the the characters in his stories. This is one of my favorites in the Harry Bosch series because of the haunting aspect of what's happening to Harry and what he goes through as he attempts to solve this case. Connelly is at his best when he puts his main characters into situations that appear to have no way out, then elegantly exposes the very realistic solution to them such as he does here. Lots of twists and turns and you will definately need to pay attention to the details as they will all be important when the everything comes together in the end.
