Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Diane Mott Davidson has taken readers by storm with clever mysteries filled with tantalizing plots and mouthwatering recipes. In her 12th novel, her tastiest tale yet, the ingenious storyteller whips up a rich souffle of murder and mischief.

The governor of Colorado has commuted the prison sentence of Goldy Schulz's ultra-handsome, ultra-charming, ultra-venal ex-husband, Dr. John Richard Korman, otherwise known to Goldy as the Jerk. He's released, and soon afterward Goldy becomes the victim of threats, rumors, and violence.

Then there's a murder and suspicion centers on Goldy. Suddenly, she is faced with the challenge of running her successful catering business while fending off two persistent detectives.

Caught in a web of secrets and lies that can tear her family apart, Goldy must use all of her considerable powers of detection to find the real killer before she herself becomes a target.

Double Shot

I loved the book. However, I often found myself distracted by the sounds of the reader turning pages, rustling papers and making many unidentified noises. At one point I found myuself spending more time solving the mystery of what were the irritating background sounds than in solving the mystery ofwho killed the Jerk.

It even includes recipes!

This story of a Colorado caterer is light for most mystery fans, but fun for a break from the Harry Boschs and Jack Reachers and Cotton Malones. The bad guy is easily figured out well before the end and the narrator is way to breathy and throaty and even nasal for my taste. The saving grace is that the recipes served by the caterer are all included at the end of the story and they are worth the listen.

Easy listen of a good story

Enjoyed this audio book. Good murder mystery without a lot of violence. Great characters and narration.

good book

the lead character still thinks she has a psyc degree... everyone thinks their ex is a psycho, but he ex didn't come close to qualifying. also she completely missed the killer, while taking to the killer. this lead character is far less intelligent than the man who knew too little. how many more books before the son is called a psychopath? the plot was good, the narrator brought the characters to life.

Bye bye JRK

Finally he’s out of the picture. I was personally hoping he had been “injured” in jail, but this was an excellent revenge. I suppose jail would have been to easy or too predictable.

This book was quite an improvement, Ms. Davidson outdid herself

Good story, narration very distracting

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, good story, good recipes!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not on my seat, but entertaining

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Distracting noises swallowing, etc

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did finish quickly!

Any additional comments?

Scared to orde next one unless the audio of narrator is improved. It made me not want to finish book, but liked the story. Narrator is good, but maybe microphone too close.

A Double Shot of Everything

Diane Mott Davidson's entire series about Goldie and her turbulent life is shot through with human emotion and humor. Double Shot has these wonderful qualites and events that make the developing plot lines and characters turn a corner without ending the series but briinging it to new possibilities. Narrator Barbara Rosenblat provides another spectacular audio presentation. The entire series just gets better and better.

Double Shot

I love the character, Goldy. BUT, I could not stand this reader. She made awful slurpping sounds,,,and she sounded so OLD. I cound not relate her to Goldy at all. In fact I wanted to stop listening because she made me think of Goldy as OLD,,,smacking sounds,,,gravely throat (smoker?) YECH!! Her voice reminds me of the old female doctor on the show Evergreen.
Wow! I realize how important the narrator is. I will be much more careful in my selections. If she continues to use this narrator,,I will read the rest in print.

Annoying Narration

The story was good but the narrators constant swallowing and slurping sounds drove me bonkers. I would give the story itself a four but the narrations is a one.

Such a tasty book

I love Goldy and hated the jerk. Loved this book and the recipes! I've got to go brine some pork chops now.
