Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of Come Home comes a riveting thriller about one man's search for his wife's killer.

When Dr. Mike Scanlon is called to serve as an army doctor in Afghanistan, he’s acutely aware of the dangers he’ll face and the hardships it will bring his wife, Chloe, and their newborn baby. And deep inside, he doesn’t think of himself as a hero, but a healer.

However, in an ironic turn of events, as Mike operates on a wounded soldier in a war-torn country, Chloe dies at home in the suburbs, in an apparently freak household accident. Devastated, he returns home to bury her, only to discover that the life he left behind has fallen apart. He’s a stranger to his baby girl, and his medical practice has downsized in his absence. Worse, he learns a shocking secret that sends him into a downward spiral.

Grief-stricken, Mike makes decisions upon returning to Afghanistan which will change his life forever. It’s not until he comes home for good that he grasps the gravity of his actions, and realizes he must fight the most important battle of his life, to reclaim his life and his daughter. Along the way, he discovers that everything is not as it seems, and he learns ugly truths about those he loves the most, as well as the true meaning of heroism.

The Ultimate Liar

What did you love best about Don't Go?

The bizarre, intense behavior of the female lead. It's amazing what she was purported to do without anyone being the wiser. It was equally amazing that the husband could go back to her, ever for obvious reasons. No baby could thrive with those two as parents.

If you’ve listened to books by Lisa Scottoline before, how does this one compare?

This book held my attention, though I was surprised that the protagonists tricked each other so often and then were so willing to continue their relationship. The whole thing is even more farfetched than other of the author's books

Have you listened to any of Jeremy Davidson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I continually felt sorry for the husband. He seemed like a normal, likable guy who was victimized by a sociopath.

Any additional comments?

The ending, though probably inevitable, surprised me. I hope I never in my life encounter eight of them.

It Just Missed

The first 27 chapters was slow, laborious and repetitive. If it wasn't Scottoline I wouldn't have finished the book. Once it started, the fire it swept like an Arizona brushfire only to peter out at the end. She attempted to take on a number of important, timely issues but she never tied them them together thoroughly enough for me. I loved the effort but I expected a more cogent novel. The characters were great, there roles we identified and were carried out wonderfully but the storyline missed the mark.

I would recommend the abridged version of Don't Go. Scottoline's last few book have taken her out of her comfort zone from the Rosario and Associates novels, I commend her for taking the plunge and I hope she continues to write books that make us try to understand important issues we never face or want to think much about.I must admit I'd love to see Benny and the girls again.

Davidson was at his best conveying each character with distinction.

Loved it

This book got me from the beginning. I so loved the military theme and the honoring of our heroes and what they went through. I did not want the book to end. Great job.

THIS AUTHOR KNOWS HOW TO RUIN A REAL GOOD STORY

What did you like best about Don't Go? What did you like least?

I LIKED THE PLOT VERY MUCH. I DID NOT LIKE THE WAY THINGS GOT WRAPPED UP IN THE END. IT RUINED THE WHOLE BOOK.

What was most disappointing about Lisa Scottoline’s story?

THE ENDING. IT WAS JUST TOO MUCH. THIS IS THE SECOND BOOK I READ BY THIS AUTHOR THAT WAS VERY ENJOYABLE THRU THE BOOK WHERE THE LAST FEW CHAPTERS MESSED THE WHOLE THING UP.

Which scene was your favorite?

THERE WERE MANY ENJOYABLE SCENES. I CANT PICK A FAVOITE.

Was Don't Go worth the listening time?

YES IT WAS EVEN THO I GAVE IT A POOR RATING. BECAUSE THRUOUT MOST OF THE BOOK IT WAS EXTREMELY ENJOYABLE.

Any additional comments?

THIS AUTHOR HAS SUCH POTENTIAL IN HER BOOKS. BUT I DOUBT I WILL BUY ANOTHER ONE BECAUSE THE PLOT WAS FINE UNTIL THEY COMPLICATED IT. ANOTHER BOOK WITH A MURDER IN IT THAT ADDED NOTHING TO THE STORY.

A very distracted story

This book could have been better but went back and forth too often. The story went from family drama to war story to mystery to legal drama then back to mystery. Usually Scottoline can stay focused on the main course but lost her way on this one.

Great story !

Story seems to be an accurate representation of a family dealing with war snd military service. Hope we can all learn to be more compassionate toward returning soldiers. Loved the characters and how they learned to work out problems.

Nice Story

This wasn't really what I expected, but it was a nice story. Not great, not bad. I didn't like the accents that the narrator gave the sisters - none of the French people I know speak anything like that, but otherwise, the narrator was fine. The ending was a bit rushed and a bit too "happy ever after", but it didn't ruin the overall story for me.

Liked it but

I really liked the story line but the narration was horrible. You had blond haired American ladies with foreign accents. There was no voice that sounded like a woman and most of the characters are female. I was engrossed in the story line, otherwise I would have returned the book due to the poor narration. I will watch for that narrator in future books to stay away from.
