"Stanton ... balances the pace skillfully, seamlessly weaving Bree's bewildering supernatural experiences into her investigation. Engaging and charismatic, angel's advocate Bree will be a breath of fresh air for fans of paranormal cozy mysteries." (PublishersWeekly, starred review)
There is a lot of character development in this so at times there can be a slow burn with little action, but since this is obviously the first in a series that's to be expected and the story never drug on or got boring, just took time to explian a few things. The author crafted a very real and lived in Savannah with interesting characters and added some mystical elements to make it this side of strange.
I think the idea of a paranormal justice system is a very novel one (pardon the pun). I found the story engaging and entertaining even if it did have a Perry Mason-esque ending (which is not a bad thing!). This was a great introduction to a series I feel holds much promise.
The book has enough weirdness to be entertaining. Very light. Good setup for the next in the series.
this could be a thinly disguised Nancy Drew mystery.... am sure it would appeal to 12 year olds
