Publisher's summary

“Few writers do it better than Child.” (Booklist)

Former naval doctor Peter Crane is urgently summoned to a remote oil platform in the North Atlantic to help diagnose a bizarre medical condition spreading through the rig. But when he arrives, Crane learns that the real trouble lies far below—on Deep Storm, a stunningly advanced science research facility built two miles beneath the surface on the ocean floor. The top-secret structure has been designed for one purpose: to excavate a recently discovered undersea site that may hold the answers to a mystery steeped in centuries of myth and speculation.

Sworn to secrecy, Dr. Crane descends to Deep Storm.

A year earlier, he is told, routine drilling uncovered the remains of mankind’s most sophisticated ancient civilization: the legendary Atlantis. But now that the site is being excavated, a series of disturbing illnesses has begun to affect the operation. As Crane is indoctrinated into the strange world of Deep Storm and commences his investigation, he begins to suspect that the covert facility conceals something more complicated than a medical mystery. The discovery of Atlantis might, in fact, be a cover for something far more sinister...and deadly.

"Child delivers a well-crafted and literate science-fiction thriller." (Publishers Weekly)

"The story is imaginative and filled with wonder. Lovers of deep-sea adventure (and in particular fans of the James Cameron movie The Abyss or Michael Crichton's novel Sphere) will want to plunge into this one. (Booklist)

“Lincoln Child has a well-earned reputation for writing solid thrillers.” (Tampa Tribune)

Like the Theme

I find I do like the theme of the overall story here. It is one of those "huh, didn't see that coming" moments. The build of the story itself is pretty good, waiting to see where this is going. My only concern is the authors desire to use a thesaurus in fleshing out the story. As well as making some characters a little too two dimensional. Why is there is always some nut job in charge that quickly develops into a zealot. And more often than not, it is some military figure. And his minions all tend to be special forces types who blindly listen to him.

recommendable

the end is may be a little too 'soft' and could have been more dramatic, but the whole story is not bad at all. I enjoyed it.

An exciting and enjoyable escape

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, interesting concept for a story, a bit of a stretch and the story line didn't explain a lot of loose ends.Who were the saboteurs and who do they represent? Matter / anti-matter weapons hidden on our planet? Was left with more questions at the end.

What three words best describe Scott Brick’s performance?

Not my favorite narrator, the way he emphasizes his dialogue reminds me of a Captain Kirk, Star Trek parody.

On the edge of my seat reading...

And at time's I felt as if I were there in the middle of it all! I loved the characters the reality of the story and...the way my heart beat, so quickly throughout.

Classic Lincoln Child

This is a great book for anyone who likes a good mystery, lots of intrigue, hard to tell who's the good guy and who's the bad.

Not the best from Lincoln child

I’m a fan of the authors and have most of their books. This one missed the mark in my opinion. Scott brick did a fine job reading but I found myself getting bored with the story. I like the Gideon crew books as well as the Pendergast series but this didn’t keep me wanting more like the rest. I was waiting for the climax and it never really came.

Underwater Thriller with a Twist

This was the first book in the Jeremy Logan series, though he only has a brief appearance in this book. A doctor named Peter Crane is the star of this particular book. Dr. Crane is summoned to discover a series of mysterious ailments members of the crew have begun experiencing while working on an undersea secret facility. What he discovers will not prepare him for the truth. This was an exciting thriller that did have a bit of a setup, but once it got going, it was a page turned with a fascinating twist. I've read several of this author's works and I really enjoy them. He's wonderful both on his own or with his writing partner Douglas Preston. I will definitely be reading more of both of their works. Scott Brick handles the narration beautifully as usual.

You don't get better than Child & Brick.

If you enjoyed The Ice Limit(s), you'll like this one. Little formulaic with the Scientific Expedition type, just because you can doesn't mean you should, standard. Yet, Scott Brick could read a grocery list and I'd be enthralled. Solid read.

Not bad

The narration was good, but the overall story was less than thrilling. The SciFi portions of the story were interesting, but there just wasn't much tension buildup in the story, though the author tried. The characters weren't very engaging.
