Publisher's summary

When a NASA satellite discovers an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory, a victory with profound implications for NASA policy and the impending presidential election. To verify the authenticity of the find, the White House calls upon the skills of intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton. Accompanied by a team of experts, including the charismatic scholar Michael Tolland, Rachel travels to the Arctic and uncovers the unthinkable: evidence of scientific trickery, a bold deception that threatens to plunge the world into controversy. But before she can warn the President, Rachel and Michael are ambushed by a deadly team of assassins. Fleeing for their lives across a desolate and lethal landscape, their only hope for survival is to discover who is behind this masterful plot. The truth, they will learn, is the most shocking deception of all.

Critic reviews

"Brown moves into new territory with his latest. It's an excellent thriller: a big yet believable story unfolding at breakneck pace, with convincing settings and just the right blend of likable and hateful characters. He's also done his research, folding in sophisticated scientific and military details that make his plot far more fulfilling than the norm." (Publishers Weekly)
"A dazzling high-tech adventure...Brown proves once again that he is among the most intelligent and dynamic of authors in the thriller genre." (Library Journal)
"This is pretty exciting stuff...and Brown certainly does have a knack for spinning a suspenseful yarn." (Booklist)

Great Story

really enjoyed this story and never wanted to press the stop button! only had one MINOR issue with the background noise/narrator side noises that probably only bother those with really good hearing.

Good story, ok narrator

I love Dan Brown novels, however this particular narrator makes several audible mouth noises throughout the entire story.

A great Listen

Fun, exciting, and faced pace. Barely a moment to rest. My only complaint, as with most Dan Brown books it takes the "oops sorry character has hit one more stumbling block" a little to far. Still a fun read

Favorite Dan Brown book!

I'd already read this book years ago and I purchased it through Audible to listen to it in the car. Just as good as the first time I read it! A very suspenseful and gripping thriller!

Another tantalizing Dan Brown thriller,

Full of surprises, unknown facts, cliff hangers, and a real surprising ending. This book is very hard to put down.

Excellent

Dan Brown’s ability to tell a story moves beyond the Robert Langdon chronicles. Well worth your time.

Fast Paced Political Thriller

This is one of Dan Brown's early books, written after Angels and Demons and before the Da Vinci Code. Ignore the one star reviews. This is a wonderful political thriller about a NASA discovery that is not what it seems. Taut, fast moving and thrilling, it is packed with facts, intrigue and twists and turns. The bad guys are despicable and you want the good guys to win. Loved the ending, though I wanted a bit more. Richard Poe did a fantastic job of narrating, having me glued to Audible to see how things would turn out. Very thrilling on audio. Now on to his first book Digital Fortress before visiting Robert Langdon.
