Publisher's summary

On the 85th floor of a glittering high-rise in Los Angeles, Robert Tarza steps into the lobby of the Marbury Marfan law firm to discover his partner Simon Rafer lying in a pool of blood - an ornate dagger plunged into his back. Robert had worked with Simon for decades, and their relationship was fraught with conflict. But he never imagined he would wind up as the prime suspect for his colleague’s murder. As the evidence stacks up against him with frightening speed, he quickly falls from his respected position to that of a criminal dragged through the tabloids. With a growing suspicion that he’s being expertly framed, Robert digs into the evidence to clear his name. In the process, however, he uncovers a web of fraud among his closest associates. As time runs out, Robert must uncover the real killer or be prepared to go to prison for murder.

Surprisingly entertaining

Would you recommend Death on a High Floor to your friends? Why or why not?

Probably. It's a good read. It got off to a weird start. I particularly thought that Jenna's behavior was very weird but was never suspected. But once I got into the second half of the book and, particularly, the courtroom scenes it was completely enjoyable. It was easy to tell who "did it" from the beginning but the ride to get there was very interesting.

Which character – as performed by Christopher Lane – was your favorite?

Oscar, of course!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There wasn't anything "moving" about the book but there are some hilarious and clever courtroom scenes.

What a good find!

This novel was casually, randomly chosen as an under $10 book to use up a credit. What a find! Upon completing it I immediately downloaded the sequel (equally low cost – goodness knows why – these were quality books).

The reader was first rate – want to hear more from him. The characters strong. I think there may have been too much detail if I had been reading this but listening to it I devoured every word (again, because of the quality of the writing and reading).

Ok Grisham etc, there is a new writer to join your ranks. The writer a lawyer so I assumed the proceedings were soundly presented: Google search shows he was the legal script advisor to three prime time television shows which included my personal favourite, Boston Legal. I am waiting enthusiastically for the third book from Charles Rosenburg.

I enjoy this book every time I listen to it

The character who tells the story Is complex and open regarding himself and all the other characters. The plot is also complex and fascinating. I wish they were more books by this author.

Entertaining and enlightening

A murder mystery wrapped in a criminal law procedural. Despite a number of improbable facts the book was quite entertaining. The main characters were nicely drawn, quirks aplenty, and the reader did an excellent job of making them real. I especially liked Oscar. Learned a great deal about criminal procedure along the way.

Overall, disappointing

This is my first Audible experience with this author, and probably my last. While the narration was professional and engaging, the story itself turned out to be less than the sum of it's parts. My biggest disappointment was the totally anti-climatic climax. The story didn't peak so much as just end. After devoting many listening hours I expected a payoff worthy of the investment. Sorry, not there. Really.
Also the main character, a successful lawyer, repeatedly took actions that belied what we're supposed to believe about him. In other words, the author had him take actions that were dumb just to be able to move the plot forward.
Overall, disappointing.

Worth the purchase

I do more than 50 books a year and try to review at least the best and the worst. This is in that "top 10%". Thoroughly entertained throughout. Have noted that wife editors rule. Excellent book.

Almost all these audio performers are good but Mr. Lane is a gem.

The accused

I didn't like the accused because he is a lawyer and some of the things he did were really stupid.
