A Great Story dominated by the telling.
If only I could see and express the world around me as this book does. The writing and descriptions can make the mundane and common into deeply thoughtful and vivid. Early in the book the Sheriffs thoughts and description dominated the story. Do not get me wrong, the story winds in past regrets, mistakes, deep characters, grey areas, sadness with hope and redemption. This book is about justice with a heart and a head.
I grew up in Montana. This book brings to life how important the sheriff was to the community and spirt of a town. The writer express a love and understanding for small towns. The main character is both eloquent in western way, intelligent, educated, and thoughtful. Not the typical way small town law enforcement are picture.
I know a sheriff from a small town of Darby Mt. One of his notable accomplishments was giving a well deserved ticket to Dave Letterman. Dave mention on 2 shows how backwards Montana sheriffs were. I think both the Darby Sheriff and Walt Longmire would like each other. About the best complement I could give.

I celebrate finding this author that has introduced a engaging, fun protagonist, setting the plot in Wyoming.
I think what I love about this genre is reading fiction that has the totally engaging, complex characters. These characters play their part in backdrops that educate us about cultures, history , time and places as they entertain. My love for this book genre totally started with Ian Fleming books with James Bond when I was a kid in Junior H.S. Years quickly passed and in retirement I’ve been seeking and devouring books seeking authors that “fit the bill”. I’ve read all the Daniel Silva books with the fascinating and complex Gabriel Allon. Dashiel Hammett, David Baldacci, and Vince Flynn fill my audible library. I read Glenn Meade’s novel, Snow Wolf, long ago and searched on audible but to no avail.
Walt Longmire is a character now that I will follow through all his adventures. I enjoy the familiarity of Walt and his companions weaving a fun story, but in some ways, the plot is subservient to the journey these likable characters take. I enjoy Johnson’s sense of humor. So, if you enjoy the authors listed in the review, get set for a fun lope through the spacious land of the west in a small town.

Another good one.
Another strong performance by George Guidall. Another good story by Craig Johnson. I discovered this series on Audible and it's a good ride so far. Highly recommended if you like the small town but seemingly endless territory of Wyoming and the West. Characters are well drawn and sucks you in to their individual stories and motives.

Pure Enjoyment.
Where does Death Without Company rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I've listened to many audiobooks and out of all of them, those by Craig Johnson are a favorite. I am spreading them out, resisting the urge to hear them all one after the other. Great series.
What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?
He has a down home like voice that fits perfect with the characters. He delivers the dry wit as a conversationalist, not an actor.
