Publisher's summary

'Bolton is a gripping storyteller with fine, haunted characters.' (Peter James)

Just before dawn in the hills near the Scottish border, a man murders a young woman.

At the same time, a hot-air balloon crashes out of the sky. There's just one survivor. She's seen the killer's face - but he's also seen hers. And he won't rest until he's eliminated the only witness to his crime. Alone, scared, trusting no one, she's running to where she feels safe - but it could be the most dangerous place of all....

Couldn't stand Julia Barrie's performance

The book itself was great as usual with a plot twist and everything, but I simply couldn't bear the narrator. Reading the 2 sisters' characters gave the impression of them being 2 demented old ladies sipping tea on a porch and not vibrant adults they were in the book.

Twisty Ride - a Really Good Listen

What did you love best about Dead Woman Walking?

It was very atmospheric. I could really picture the rain on the northern England moors. (And it rained a lot!).

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The story was a little slow to start, but good. By the middle, yes, I couldn't stop listening. I took my dog for extra walks just so I could listen a little more.

Which character – as performed by Julia Barrie – was your favorite?

Of course, the main character and her sister were my favourite. But I loved Mother Hildegarde (the head nun), as well as a couple of the other nuns who provided some gentle humour.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No really extreme reactions. A little sad at parts, mostly excited and holding my breath at other parts.

Any additional comments?

If you like suspenseful, twisty mysteries with an adventurous heroine and some bad guys, but no sex, you will probably like this moody, atmospheric tale.
