One of the best narrators I've heard so far!

If you're into vampire books, this one's a decent read/ listen. Southern setting with some fantasy, some romance, and some gore (NSFW). BUT the narrator was truly the standout. She voiced every character, and was especially good with accents and aged characters, and infuses her narration with the appropriate emphasis and emotions as if she was on stage in a play. She whispers, almost cries, seduces with malice, pauses with meaning, bubbles with joy, or shake with rage or fear. She is not over-the-top in her expressions (no William Shatner style reactions here), and I can tell this book was significantly enhanced by the narrator lending her vocal talents.

I'm so glad to discover that Audible used the same narrator for the next book in the series! A guaranteed purchase from me!

Love this series

I’ve read these a million times, but my book collection was lost in a move. Came across them on here and listened to the whole first book in a few days. Already listening to the second while I write this.

I like the narrator. This is the first audio book I’ve listened to, and I think it just takes some time to get used to. Some of the men’s voices are too similar that I got a little confused.

So cheesy

Appealing heroine but such a warped concept. I was really repelled by the idea of getting turned on by having your blood sucked.

The plot

Solid paranormal romance. I know the show veered away from the source material so I want to experience the books.

Excellent voice acting!

The voice acting was excellent. I loved to this years ago and it’s just as good as the first time. I love the Sookie series.

True blood who?

I was a huge fan of True Blood (it was my guilty pleasure) but I just have to say they did not do the book justice. I could follow along with the show each chapter and notice what was missing. Lafayette was the only thing they did right!

Sookie Stackhouse

I wouldn't leave a review until I finished all 9 books. And I am happy to say I loved every one of them, I couldn't wait to download the next. If you have started watching the True Blood series on HBO this is not the same. This is much better. Hands down the most entertaining series I've listened to in a long time.

Funny and Clever

I know what you're thinking: "oh no, not another vampire book." But this one is different. It is a bit tongue in cheek and there is a lot of humor in the book. It is told in first-person narrative by a southern waitress who is lonely has trouble connecting with other humans. The narration is superb and sometimes it really feels like you are listening to a real Sookie Stackhouse speaking to you. I'm in the middle of the second book in the series and it is even better than this one. Give it a try and you'll be glad you did.
