One of my favorite's

The story is good and I like the characters a lot but it's the narration that takes it to the next level. Johanna Parker did an amazing job and in my opinion, was the perfect choice for narrator.

Strong woman

Sookie Stackhouse looks sweet, naive and weak. But she is intelligent and losing her naivete now that she is dating vampire Bill. She has a strong sense of duty to her family, friends, and community. Nice to have a strong female lead.

Engaging

An engaging, intense, captivating and entertaining story. I read this series a long time ago and enjoyed it then but listening to it on Audiobook brought it to another level. I enjoyed every single second of this story.

True Blood!

This first book followed the true blood season one fairly to the t! So if you have seen that you could almost skip this book but it’s still of course super good and excited to read the whole series as I heard it’s so different!!!

That Vampire Said ....

When I first downloaded this book I did not think I would like it, but was willing to take a chance on it. Lo and Behold, I found this book most excellent.
The characters are beguiling and mysterious and you soon learn about them in a most intimate manner.
There is lots of romance along with plenty of suspense. You would think those two would not match as well as they did. But not only does this book keep you on the edge of your seat, but it keeps you giggling like a young girl as she watches a love story unfold in front of her eyes.
This was an excellent listen and I would suggest anybody to give it a go.

I Have Found a New Addiction

What a delight!!! This was one of the books Audio will say you may be interested in. The cover was a bit off-putting but I kept coming back to the description and after I read some of the reviews I purchased the book. From the beginning I was pulled in to this story. Written with wit and fun, a great story line, and imbued with enough of the "unknown" to lure the reader in--and I was hooked. Very entertaining and a wonderful approach to the life of Sookie Stackhouse and the world in which she lives. Each chapter unfolds like a gift. If the description of this book intrigues you, get it! It is always exciting finding an author you like--I usually end up getting every book by a newly discovered author -- I plan to read all the books about Sookie Stackhouse. As a plus, the narrator, Johanna Parker, is great!!

Something different

I've read all of these books and they were fun albeit I wouldn't want to read them again. It's not great fiction and as a reader it does feel like getting lead by the nose a lot. There is no mystery because there is no way to figure out the outcome so you just read and get lead and enjoy. They are entertaining, but I don't get what all the hype is about. Each book seems to unravel a little more and more until you are left almost not caring about the characters anymore. I had read the reviews but I wanted to see for myself. I wouldn't buy these I would rent them and try them out knowing not to expect a whole lot.

Dont tell my kids that I loved it!

This book was purely entertaining, a grown up Twilight. I am embarrased to say that I loved the adventures of Sookie and her vampire but I did! The narration was wonderful. I am hooked. Dont tell my adult kids- they will disown me!

Great follow-on for Twilight enthusiast

Yep, I got hooked on Twilight after seeing the movie and raced through all the audio books wanting more. A longtime Sci Fi fan, I thought vampire media was all horror and beneath me- wrong. I do like this new romance vampire genre, and the Sookie Stackhouse books filled the void. Dead Until Dark Book 1 of the Sookie Stackhouse series is great. It has just the right ingredients- mystery; fantasy (vampires, shapeshifters, and werewolves oh my;) with a dash of steamy romance. The character development is outstanding with a realistic style that pulls me along. The excellent narration, with it's Southern drawl and readily discernable characters brings the scenes to life. It's an action packed plot that doesn't telegraph the ending. Warning... once I started this series, I could not stop. It's addictive.

Unexpectedly pleased

I bought Dead Until Dark on a whim because it was part of the Daily Deals sale, thinking that for $3.95, I had little to lose. I have never watched True Blood and I knew very little about this series prior to listening to this audiobook, other than it had something to do with vampires. I was unexpectedly pleased.

Johanna Parker's narration was funny and wry. She embodied Sookie Stackhouse so completely that I doubt the print book is even half as enjoyable as this recording, without Ms. Parker's voice to bring Sookie to life.

The story itself is fun and light, and doesn't take itself too seriously. The Bubba storyline kind of made me scratch my head (what was the point of that subplot?) but overall, it kept me hooked through to the end. I was surprised at how much I love Sookie's character.

I am late in discovering this series, but I'm definitely going to continue to the next books. A great find at a great price!
