"An author of rare talents." (Publishers Weekly)
Yes, I have listened to the series up to book 12 a couple times now.
The books are pretty original to me.
I enjoyed all the characters. Especially Sookie.
I was pleasantly suprised to listen to this. I really enjoyed it. It was funny and it moved fast. I read a review of someone who didn't like it because they didn't like Bill and wanted Sookie to be with someone else. I totally get that, I was rooting for Sookie and Sam the whole way through, but I didn't not like Bill. He just really came across as flat in this book. Hopefully that will change in the books to come.
The narration got on my nerves a bit. Her male voices were rediculous, but I'll still continue with listening anyway.
Fiction: I like Paranormal, Young Adult, Historical, Fantasy, Romance, Classics. Non-Fiction: I like Historical, Military, Memoirs.
I bought Dead Until Dark on a whim because it was part of the Daily Deals sale, thinking that for $3.95, I had little to lose. I have never watched True Blood and I knew very little about this series prior to listening to this audiobook, other than it had something to do with vampires. I was unexpectedly pleased.
Johanna Parker's narration was funny and wry. She embodied Sookie Stackhouse so completely that I doubt the print book is even half as enjoyable as this recording, without Ms. Parker's voice to bring Sookie to life.
The story itself is fun and light, and doesn't take itself too seriously. The Bubba storyline kind of made me scratch my head (what was the point of that subplot?) but overall, it kept me hooked through to the end. I was surprised at how much I love Sookie's character.
I am late in discovering this series, but I'm definitely going to continue to the next books. A great find at a great price!
From the sample I thought I would enjoy this very different take on a vampire novel. But I found myself really not enjoying it. It seemed kind of depressing, and, really, does it have to be so erotic in a victimizer kind of way? I know, I know, it is a vampire novel, I just thought this would be a different take on it. It is just not my cup of tea. I know people really like her, but I had to stop listening part way through. Snooky is no Odd Thomas.
I've read all of these books and they were fun albeit I wouldn't want to read them again. It's not great fiction and as a reader it does feel like getting lead by the nose a lot. There is no mystery because there is no way to figure out the outcome so you just read and get lead and enjoy. They are entertaining, but I don't get what all the hype is about. Each book seems to unravel a little more and more until you are left almost not caring about the characters anymore. I had read the reviews but I wanted to see for myself. I wouldn't buy these I would rent them and try them out knowing not to expect a whole lot.
Addicted to Audible!
This book was purely entertaining, a grown up Twilight. I am embarrased to say that I loved the adventures of Sookie and her vampire but I did! The narration was wonderful. I am hooked. Dont tell my adult kids- they will disown me!
I'm a web developer based out of Sacramento, I listen to books while I work, and love audible.
One of the better urban fantasy stories I've read actually. However I'm not a huge fan of urban fantasy in general.
Its a good romance novel well read. I thought it would be more like the TV show. More of a mystery with really fun characters. I'm half way through the book and Tara has not been mentioned and Lafayette barely mentioned in passing. Im more comfortable reading sex scenes than I am hearing them. This is just a personal preference. The narrator performance is just fine.,
I would rather read them then hear them.
No she is great!
Should have read the book before watching True Blood.
I waited to write a review until I listened to all 12 books. I loved them all. Sookie is a breath of fresh air small town girl who has had problems in the past with romance because she has the gift of reading minds. Imagine going on a date and hearing everything the guy was thinking... Not good. With vampires out of the closet, she finds she can't read vampire minds. Finally she can have true romance. There is also Mystery, Murder, and Mayhem and more supernatural creatures to be revealed!
I loved all the characters and how the story unfolded through all the books. It was bitter sweet that it had to come to an end. I was going to watch True Blood on HBO until friends told me it wasn't nearly as good as the books and had way too much porn!! I will leave the same review for all twelve books. Sookie just wouldn't be Sookie without Johanna Parker, I loved her voice!
I'm indifferent about this series I started reading it due to the show but I almost liked the show more because it's switches from character stories. The whole " I'm so in love with Bill" drag seems to go on forever. But it wasn't a bad book, it was entertaining. It's just very simple. The narrating is what really made this audible enjoyable. I give it 4 starts.
