Publisher's summary

Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution. But revenge is not simple. As he stalks his wife's betrayers - a chase that takes him from the wild moors of Scotland to the bustling streets of New York City and the darkest bayous of Louisiana - he is also forced to dig further into Helen's past. And he is stunned to learn that Helen may have been a collaborator in her own murder.

Peeling back the layers of deception, Pendergast realizes that the conspiracy is deeper, goes back generations, and is more monstrous than he could have ever imagined - and everything he's believed, everything he's trusted, everything he's understood... may be a horrific lie.

Pendergast Finally Coming to Full Fruition!!!

What made the experience of listening to Cold Vengeance the most enjoyable?

No spoilers. Let's just say Lincon & Child have now added a mastery of action sequences to their ability to create great mental images.

What did you like best about this story?

The Assault!! Brilliant!

Which character – as performed by Rene Auberjonois – was your favorite?

Auberjonois has over time grown on me as Pendergast although, Brick is still better.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Again the Assault. Lincon & Child were not always highly adept with action sequences, I'm thinking they might have consulted with an expert. (being one myself, they did well)

A little disappointing

I have read or listened to all of the pendergast books. I was excited to see another one but disappointed. It felt a little glib and not real. The ending also left us hanging. I do not enjoy when authors set themselves up that obviously for a sequel.

Pendergast never gets old...

I thought Preston and Child may have run out of ideas for Pendergast but they have not. The books were beginning to sound the same but they came up with a good story line for this one and its predecessor.

Wild goose chase cliffhanger

Thats it: wild goose chase cliffhanger.

Mystery to mystery to mystery full of adventure & violence.

Well read.

An introduction to numerous characters I’m sure to be found in the sequel of more mystery, adventure, violence. Is it with worth it? I found the vocabulary & reading worth a second listen years after my first listen.

Missed it with this one

This was more of a bridge than a book - a connector between "Fever Dream" and whatever Preston & Child will write next - no closure, no real answers - just more questions. I was very disappointed with the whole book. The Pendergast character has broken chararacter and lost the qualities that made him interesting. I am wondering if there is a long range plot plan or if the authors are just messing with us...

Excellent.

Per this series by Preston and Child, I have never been disappointed. I would recommend any of this series highly to anyone. I always automatically grab anything by them.

What????

I thought the story was good - I was eager to find out what happened to Helen, what the deal with Pendergast's ward was, how Pendergast would deal with Esterhazy, what happened to Corey . . . then poof! the book ended without answering anything! I thought maybe I had missed downloading part 3 until I heard "Audible hopes you have enjoyed this book" and I could not believe they would just leave everything up in the air like they did. By the time the next installment comes out I won't remember and/or won't care what happened to anyone! That was not a nice thing to do to your readers, Preston and Child.
