Publisher's summary

Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution. But revenge is not simple. As he stalks his wife's betrayers - a chase that takes him from the wild moors of Scotland to the bustling streets of New York City and the darkest bayous of Louisiana - he is also forced to dig further into Helen's past. And he is stunned to learn that Helen may have been a collaborator in her own murder.

Peeling back the layers of deception, Pendergast realizes that the conspiracy is deeper, goes back generations, and is more monstrous than he could have ever imagined - and everything he's believed, everything he's trusted, everything he's understood... may be a horrific lie.

Great

Wish I had read this prior to the next. So far, the best yet read.

Quick cash book

I’ve been a hardcore fan of this series since book 1. However, these last two books fall so very short of a decent read. Plot line dragged out & unfocused. The mtg between H/h was sterile and overly obtuse on revealing anything of note. Massively disappointed. I’ll try the next book but, so far, this series has two strikes

Good Story but Too Much Violence

This is only the second Pendergast book I've listened too. I thought there was a good story but the book ended without a finale. Plus, it did seem to drag on... and on... and on. Obviously, you have to read/listen to the next in the series to (hopefully) get some answers. And, there was too much violence for my taste. And a lot of it didn't advance the story, or aid the main characters, it just seemed to be violence for violence sake.

Preston & Child are a good team but this went too far with the violence and didn't end the story.

Pendergast is amazing once again

Would you listen to Cold Vengeance again? Why?

Absolutely! I love this character. He plays it so close to the vest, he frustrates the heck out of everyone around him. But what fun it is to follow along with these books.

What about Rene Auberjonois’s performance did you like?

He did an awesome job. I think when you are just enjoying the story and consistency of the voices and accents, the narrator is doing a superb job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

When unseen forces collide

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend anything by Preston & Child!

The Story Continues ...

Where does Cold Vengeance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The whole Pendergast series is a treat for the mind. I hope Preston & Child continue for another dozen books.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Maybe not the edge of my seat, but it certainly kept my headphones on !

What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Auberjonois is made for these novels, he delivers the best Pendergast voice. He really is a master of different accents and inflections.

Any additional comments?

I would suggest that, if you have read any of the Pendergast series, you go back and start at book one. (Check out the series here on Audible, there are 12 books) The facts keep building and the characters keep evolving, and you miss insights by reading the series out of order. Hence, if you want to get into a great series, I would recommend this.

Another chiller, thriller book

What made the experience of listening to Cold Vengeance the most enjoyable?

the variety of the story line which just kept getting more & more mysterious.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

OH yes, definately, without a doubt, & then some too.

What about Rene Auberjonois’s performance did you like?

He has the talent to bring the reader right into the book as though they are totally involved.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I just thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of Pendergast

Best of the series, but a bad ending...

I agree with most others here. This was a great book. the old Pendergast is definitely back! Talk about dysfunctional families, he sure has one. This was a real page turner and kept me up until wee hours. I was Very disappointed with the ending. I know authors like to set up sequels but this was a bit much. What happened to Cory, and the butler (can't remember his name). I am anxiously waiting for the next to hear what happened. Are we going to have a new sleuth couple like Clive Cussler's new series? We'll just have to wait and see. Rene really brings the book to life and does an excellent job!

My last P&C novel

I've been reading their books since The Relic, but had taken a few years off. The way this one ended was such a commercial sellout, I have no desire to read book 3 of the trilogy. I am going to slightly modify the ending in my mind and imagine Pendergast and the love of his life walked had in hand into the sunset and move on to authors that respect their characters.
