Publisher's summary

On New Year's Day, Detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch fields a call that a dog has found a bone - a bone that the dog's owner, a doctor, feels certain is human.

That chance discovery leads Bosch to a shallow grave in the Hollywood hills, evidence of a murder committed more than 20 years earlier. It's a cold case, but it stirs up Bosch's memories of his own childhood as an orphan in the city. Digging through police reports and hospital records, tracking down street kids and runaways from the 1970s, Bosch finds a family ripped apart by an absence - and a trail, ever more tenuous, into a violent, terrifying world.

As the case takes Bosch deeper into the past, a rookie cop named Julia Brasher brings him alive in the present in a way no one has in years. Bosch has been warned about the trouble that comes with dating a rookie, but no warning could withstand the heat between them - or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a hard turn.

Drawing on the "precision-tooled twists" and "wellspring of authentically lurid detail" (Los Angeles Magazine) that have made him one of the fasted-selling novelists at work today, Michael Connelly has written a riveting, hard-edged, and unforgettable thriller.

Don't miss Detective Harry Bosch on the case in these Michael Connelly crime fiction novels.

Typical Connelly. Excellent story line.

Narrator is not the best and the suspense music that has been introduced at the end of certain chapters is really horrible. Cheapens the already poor performance even more.

Once you can get past that, the story is very well written and definitely worth a listen.

Sound Effects Should Be Relevant

If you could sum up City of Bones: Harry Bosch Series, Book 8 in three words, what would they be?

Great Story But ...

What was one of the most memorable moments of City of Bones: Harry Bosch Series, Book 8?

The ending but I don't want to give it away

What didn’t you like about Peter Jay Fernandez’s performance?

He did gender changes well but just couldn't get the same power of previous Bosch narrators. The additional sounds distracted from the telling of the story and I didn't think many of them actually fit the situation.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The death of the cop and its effects on Bosch.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the forthcoming changes in narrators. I hope they can recapture the energy Dick Hill started this series with.

City Of Bones Review

From start to finish, City Of Bones captures your attention and doesn't let go. Connelly is the consummate weaver of mystery and suspense, but never deviates from the plausible and possible. I could not recommend it more.

Turning Point for Bosch

I knew the plot from the TV series, but there are significant differences which I find fascinating. I like thinking about how Connelly makes choices for scenes. It works both ways. This narrator was GREAT! Enjoyed his performance.

I was wrong

Late in the story the doctor says he never allowed the dog off the leash at night. I assumed he was the killer.

Solid book

I enjoyed the performance. It was nice that the narrator didn’t try to make Bosch’s voice sound too deep or his partner sound like a black guy. You either have that skill or you don’t. It can be painful to listen to someone who clearly doesn’t.

Loved it!

Harry Bosch rocks! Many twists, convoluted plot lines and shocks await the reader. One thing is certain. He is a step ahead of the pack.
