Publisher's summary

On New Year's Day, Detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch fields a call that a dog has found a bone - a bone that the dog's owner, a doctor, feels certain is human.

That chance discovery leads Bosch to a shallow grave in the Hollywood hills, evidence of a murder committed more than 20 years earlier. It's a cold case, but it stirs up Bosch's memories of his own childhood as an orphan in the city. Digging through police reports and hospital records, tracking down street kids and runaways from the 1970s, Bosch finds a family ripped apart by an absence - and a trail, ever more tenuous, into a violent, terrifying world.

As the case takes Bosch deeper into the past, a rookie cop named Julia Brasher brings him alive in the present in a way no one has in years. Bosch has been warned about the trouble that comes with dating a rookie, but no warning could withstand the heat between them - or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a hard turn.

Drawing on the "precision-tooled twists" and "wellspring of authentically lurid detail" (Los Angeles Magazine) that have made him one of the fasted-selling novelists at work today, Michael Connelly has written a riveting, hard-edged, and unforgettable thriller.

Don't miss Detective Harry Bosch on the case in these Michael Connelly crime fiction novels.

Review Harry Bosch

Did not disappoint. It was a great finish to a great series of 8 books filled with mystery and struggles of a character who experienced a great deal of adversity not only as a detective but as a troubled soul dealing with his on demons. Loved the journey with him and a great writer who kept me engaged in that journey.

Peter Jay Fernandez is a good narrator

What made the experience of listening to City of Bones: Harry Bosch Series, Book 8 the most enjoyable?

The great relief I felt that it's a guy with a good voice who knows how to narrate this kind of book--unlike Peter Giles in Angel's Flight, the previous Bosch novel--whom I gave the worst pan I have ever given in a review on Amazon and returned my download from Audible after listening to a few paragraphs--he was that bad. I had never heard Fernandez before, but I would certainly read other books from him. He's no Dick Hill, but I actually like his voice a lot and would definitely be happy to listen to him again.

Have you listened to any of Peter Jay Fernandez’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not heard him before.

Any additional comments?

This novel is the first setting for the Bosch TV series.

Twists and turns

All that makes a murder mystery great is in this story. Trying to second guess the outcome at every turn but surprised at the end.

Good Book

it was a good story. The first season of the tv series was based on this book. I found the difference to be small.
