Publisher's summary

At the end of Fuzzy Navel, J. A. Konrath surprised listeners with an agonizing cliff-hanger: One of Lieutenant Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels’s loved ones is dead. But who? Listeners were left clamoring to know more.

Cherry Bomb, the sixth Jack Daniels mystery, opens at the funeral. While Jack stands graveside, tears in her eyes, her cell phone rings. It’s the killer, escaped maniac Alex Kork, taunting Jack, drawing her ever further into a twisted game of cat and mouse. Because while Alex is more than willing to kill random victims, Jack is her true prey. But which woman wants revenge more?

Cherry Bomb is J. A. Konrath's most gripping novel of suspense yet—filled with twists and turns that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats.

Jd continues her fun

Where does Cherry Bomb rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love the entire series thus far. Cherry Bomb fits right in with all of the characters returning to add to the fun.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Konrath is very good. He always keeps ahead of you by a step or two.

Have you listened to any of Susie Breck and Dick Hill ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I love their work. Truely part of the series at this point.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

expect the unexpected

Serial killer is a lunatic

Another really great book from this author and excellent narration as well! Never a dull moment.

Tons of fun as usual

Another great addition to the ‘Jack Daniels’ Series. This book as a ton a gratuitous violence, some great one liners and characters that make the story what it is. I was wrong on my guess of who was killed at the end of Fuzzy Navel which really turned the story. If you’re a fan of the other books in the series this will be a welcome addition to your library.

The two narrators really make the story great to listen to!

this one missed for me

Maybe I wasn't in the mood, but this one missed for me. I've enjoyed the other books in this series but this one - not so much.

Predictable, repetitive and boring

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I'd like to see unexpected twists and turns that are reasonable. The ending and all the killings were so uneventful. I could see them a mile away and they were uninteresting.

Has Cherry Bomb turned you off from other books in this genre?

No completely, but I have not bought more crime stories.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, it was adequate and did not interfere with the comprehension.

What character would you cut from Cherry Bomb?

The serial killer Alex because she was too unbelievable. So other villain would have been better.

Any additional comments?

Even the ending was lame and apparent.

Glowing reviews a mystery

Would you try another book from J. A. Konrath and/or Susie Breck and Dick Hill ?

Not from J. A. Konrath. Breck and Hill are talented.

Any additional comments?

The book (and series) had so many glowing reviews, thought we would give Cherry Bomb a try. This genre is a guilty pleasure on a road trip so we've both read and listened to a wide range of authors in this category. Both the sex and violence felt gratuitous - gruesome for pure shock value. Maybe if we had started at the beginning of the series and been invested in the main character we might have forgiven the problems in the story and the unpleasantness, but I doubt it.

Obscene in two ways

The writing may actually be pretty good. But for me there were too many detailed sex scenes and way too much equally obscene violence. I’m not a prude and I’m not squeamish, but I stopped about 30% of the way into the book. The female narrator was OK but I didn’t care at all for the male narrator. I think he’s talented because he read several characters with vocal changes. But his voice and pronunciation were unattractive to me. I can’t recommend this title.

Not impressed

The Jacqueline 'Jack' Daniels mystery series novels are highly variable in quality. Of the ones I have listened to so far Cherry Bomb is the worst. 2 stars is being very generous. The narration is outstanding.

Boy did I learn a lesson

What disappointed you about Cherry Bomb?

First of all never get multiple titles by the same author you've never read before.
I did this with Konrath, at sale price fortunately. As my buying history shows I'm not a prude with my listening. However this book was completely obsessed with sex to the point of total boredom. EVERYTHING was viewed with sex colored glasses. Of the hundreds of books I've listened to this was one of the 3 or 4 I just put down, it was just that boring and useless.

Would you ever listen to anything by J. A. Konrath again?

Not even the other two in my library.

What didn’t you like about Susie Breck and Dick Hill ’s performance?

I won't say anything negative about Breck's performance, I'm sure she does well with better material. Dick Hill doesn't need any critique, he is THE voice. Even with this piece his range and inflection was, as always, spot on.

awful- forced, gratuitous

Would you ever listen to anything by J. A. Konrath again?

I have enjoyed JA Konrath but with this one- the self conscious sex scenes were a real turn off. And the violence has become so wearying. I am off Konrath after this
