These are not "heavy" storyline books, but are fun to listen to. Peabody and Rourke were my favorites in this one with their subtle humor as well as the magic/evil aspect. As always, the narrator makes these books their best!

"Not my favorite in the series"
Where does Ceremony in Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book probably ranks 3 stars compared to all the other audiobooks in this series and 4-5 compared to any other audio book. I love Susan Erickson.

If you’ve listened to books by J. D. Robb before, how does this one compare?

I'm not a big fan of this storyline, OR Eves actions and behavior in this book. In all honesty she frustrates the hell out of me in this book. She is so bigheaded and stubborn.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Jamie tries to break into the house.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I kept having to turn it off because Eve was peeving me off.

    Any additional comments?

I have read this book, and listened to it on audio once already. I am currently making my way through the series again on audio and have to admit this is not one of my favorite in the series. Eve has always been very single minded and focused. But it bothers me in this book (and others as well, but particularly in this book) how she thinks she knows who the murderer is and just hammers at them. She has no regard to how her actions will affect the people she is hammering, they are innocent of all crimes but she beats them until they are broken because she wants it to be them. The way she goes after Chaz makes me want to smack the hell out of her. The way she snaps at Peabody for having an opinion makes me want to slap the hell out of her. And in all honestly has made me distrust the police in general. Because I know this is how “real” police officers are. They get their teeth into something and refuse to admit that they may be wrong. Instead of trying to find the truth objectively, they try to find the truth to support their opinions. Even though in each book Eve finds her man she manages to screw up other people’s lives in the process, and she just doesn’t care. She makes a comment in the book that she “isn’t a good person” and in some areas she is right, she isn’t. BUT with all the frustrations her actions bring me in this book I’m still addicted. LOL

I was an avid reader of books before my work took most of my time so now I listen to Audible books when I'm exercising or walking my dog. I like mystery and thriller novels, particularly good serial killer novels. I'm a writer and a psychotherapist.

"Sex attempting to cover up implausible situations"

I've listened to a few novels byJD Robb recently. I think I'm done listening to her because there's nothing remotely interesting about the protagonist and her husband having sex every day in every way with each encounter detailed to the point that I finally figured out I could fast forward and save myself the exasperation of wondering why the reading had to know every touch, every kiss, every groan, every orgasm, in every way possible. Really? All Roark has to do it touch Eve and she has an orgasm that leaves her shakking but not finished. I mean shouldn't he have to do something besides lay his hand on her?
Eve being abused as a child doesn't give her carte blanch to be caustic and rude to everyone around her, even her friends and husband. The story lines are shallow and the plot needs more development. There are some interesting moments but Robb needs to use the sex spaces to develop more intrigue and deeper writing.

"Another good book in the series"

I may have a bit of bias here as I really like J. D. Robb's writing in this series which is just a little sic-fi but a lot of good old fashioned action mystery. I also like the main characters. Dogged detective Eve Dallas is a bit OCD as she has to get to real conclusions. Off 'the streets' she is the Walmart woman rather than the fashonesta...I would bet she has mostly jeans and sweats. While she has many make friends (well, she is a cop!), she is very distrustful of anything beyond...well, until Irishman Roake invaded her world.

Roake is a rich, handsome rogue with more than a shady past. With his insitfulness and intelligence, a well as his pals from the past, he is her equal who helps out with some of her sleuthing. He sees inside her ostrich thick shell and 'handles' her gently and persistently. Think Nick and Nora Charles of The Thin Man movies only make it more Nora and Nick as persue the bad guys as well as a lusty romance.

Dallas has new partner who always calls her 'Sir'. Roake has his disdaining butler.

Along with a good mystery there is much dry humor.

Am I reading these in order?

Of course not! For which I must thank author Robb who makes each story come to a conclusion with no cliff hangers! (Yes, the romance aspect not conclude, who cares? I think it's like when a friend tells you about what happened yesterday and then as you talk, remembrances are interjected.

Listen to it as you drive to the beach or while you are watching the kids play. The reader is great with voices clearly detected!

Damn Audible.com and the great summer sale!

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

    The narration was excellent!
She is able to effortlessly move between the personalities (including accents) of the characters in such a believable way!

    "Brilliant brilliant series of books"
What did you like most about Ceremony in Death: In Death, Book 5?

It was so suspenseful and I actually figured out who the bad guys were but the way it was played was exciting.

What other book might you compare Ceremony in Death: In Death, Book 5 to, and why?

No other books come close to these. Never have I enjoyed a series of books and charactes as much as I am enjoying these. I cannot recommend highly enough.

Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favourite?

Eve and Roarke are always my favourites. They are both exceptionally strong characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes when Eve tricked Roarke into thinking he had to sing with Mavis and then she said she loved him. It was so sweet.

    Any additional comments?

These books are costing me a fortune but I have to have them. Such amazing writing of characters and the narrator is just brilliant. I have just downloaded book 5 and I am looking forward to my commute to work in the morning now.
