Publisher's summary

Her career in homicide has taken her into the darkest depths of New York City’s underground - and sometimes Lieutenant Eve Dallas feels more comfortable in those kinds of places than in the high-rise, high-society world of her billionaire husband, Roarke. But while she’s no party girl, she’s managing to have a reasonably good time at the celebrity-packed bash celebrating the debut of The Icove Agenda. This time it’s Eve, not Roarke, who’s a guest of honor, since the film is based on one of her famous cases. Her partner, Peabody, is practically giddy over rubbing shoulders with Hollywood royalty. Eve, on the other hand, is more likely to roll her eyes than have stars in them. But she has to admit it’s a little spooky seeing the actress playing her, who looks almost like her long-lost twin. Not as unsettling, though, as seeing K. T. Harris, the actress who plays Peabody - drowned in the lap pool on the roof of the director’s luxury building. Talented but rude, and widely disliked, K.T. had made an embarrassing scene during dinner. She clearly liked being the center of attention. Now she’s at the center of a crime scene - and Eve is more than ready to get out of her high heels and strap on her holster, to step into the role she was born to play: cop.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Change of Pace for Dallas & Entourage

Would you listen to Celebrity in Death again? Why?

Oh, yes. I seldom listen to audiobooks more than once, but I've listed to the In Death series twice -- in order! Why? It's fascinating to roll back the clock and revisit the steps in character development. I find nuances in earlier books that resonate with the knowledge of what comes later in the characters' experiences.

I LIKE the fact that this book is a change of pace. My one criticism of the In Death series is that sometimes the story and pacing is a bit too formulaic (if you're reading them one after the other in order). This one is a break from the darkness of some of the more recent books.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I never fail to marvel at Susan Ericksen's incredible ability to craft amazingly distinct and unique characters -- inflection, pace of speech, accent, tone, volume. Usually one word is enough to identify the character. And there are a LOT of recurring characteris in the In Death series, making it quite a challenge to give them distinct voices that encapsulate their personalities.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The lighthearted scenes at the party and the accompanying repartee made me laugh. The interplay between Eve & Rourke nearly always makes me smile. . .

Any additional comments?

This shouldn't be the first In Death book you read, because it just won't be as meaningful. At the very least, read Origin in Death before this one.

Less of a Thriller, More Police Procedural

J.D. Robb tends to vary her approach to give us (and her characters) a chance for some "normal" life. While the premise is certainly riveting, it is more good solid police work than thrilling chases and risked necks in this outing. Love the characters, and loved the emphasis on Peabody and McNabb's relationship. I would call it a domestic cozy, but it isn't that limited. She throws in a major plot twist, that while it complicates the investigation, gives us to think.

Good "...In Death"

Could have used a little faster pace and a little action. The performance was excellent as always!

A great story with Hollywood murder!

It’s almost time for the Icove movie, based on Nadine First’s book about the crimes of the Icoves. Eve and Peabody visit the movie set in NYC and meet the actors and actresses who will be portraying them and the rest of the team on screen. After getting called away to an unrelated crime, Eve can’t help but feel there’s tension on the movie set. The actress playing the role of Peabody turns out to be a nasty, blackmailing bitch and when she turns up drowned on the rooftop terrace of a pre-release viewing of the movie, its time to investigate the dynamics of the relationships in the motley group from Hollywood. Solving the case becomes publicity for the movie premiere, so Eve and Peabody have their work cut out for them. Narration was excellent as always.

Favorite Series of all Time

What did you like about this audiobook?

I love the entire series, especially when tough cop Eve is so reluctant to dress like a woman & her sheer terror of having Trina "do" her up! It helps make her so much more "real" as a character. Eve is one smart, tough, cop with her own brand of law enforcement, & a helluva team behind her.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Many might say these books are "all the same" in that there's a murder & Eve, of course, solves it. But there the similarity ends to anyone who has kept up with them. Each plot has it's own intricacies & twists. Greed, lust, arrogance; these and many more can drive the murderer, and you're not sure who it is until Eve is sure. Each story is also so well researched that you can "see" & "feel" each location & "know" the background of any particular career, location, scientific practices & protocol or whatever business the plot revolves around.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

She has really brought these characters to life in a way that brings them into the readers heart and makes them wonder what's next in their personal lives, as well as their professional. They are so much more than characters; more like friends that you want to root for throughout..

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Absolutely nothing!! I love listening to any book narrated by Susan Ericksen.

Do you have any additional comments?

I realize J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts is an amazingly prolific writer, but I'm constantly wishing there wasn't so much time between books!! LOL

In Lovae with series

Would you consider the audio edition of Celebrity in Death to be better than the print version?

I really enjoy this series,J.D. Robb the alter ego produces a fun read. The characters are developed to the point you can actually visualize them when listening to the book. Her villians are creative in an furistic odd ball way. I recommend this series for those that like Faye Kellermans books, or the Evanovich Series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Celebrity in Death?

face to face with there face doubles is memorable

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes! She enlivens the characters, when she enjoys the book, you will enjoy the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No! Thats not how I listen to books generally. I listen as a reward to me, an aid to house cleaning and laundry.

Any additional comments?

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE This Series!

You'd think after so many installments J. D. Robb would run out of ideas for this series, but nope - she just gets better and better. I really enjoyed this tale. As always, Susan Ericksen does an AWESOME job bringing this story to life. I love that I can recognize each character just by the change in her voice! Highly recommended!
