Publisher's summary

Her career in homicide has taken her into the darkest depths of New York City’s underground - and sometimes Lieutenant Eve Dallas feels more comfortable in those kinds of places than in the high-rise, high-society world of her billionaire husband, Roarke. But while she’s no party girl, she’s managing to have a reasonably good time at the celebrity-packed bash celebrating the debut of The Icove Agenda. This time it’s Eve, not Roarke, who’s a guest of honor, since the film is based on one of her famous cases. Her partner, Peabody, is practically giddy over rubbing shoulders with Hollywood royalty. Eve, on the other hand, is more likely to roll her eyes than have stars in them. But she has to admit it’s a little spooky seeing the actress playing her, who looks almost like her long-lost twin. Not as unsettling, though, as seeing K. T. Harris, the actress who plays Peabody - drowned in the lap pool on the roof of the director’s luxury building. Talented but rude, and widely disliked, K.T. had made an embarrassing scene during dinner. She clearly liked being the center of attention. Now she’s at the center of a crime scene - and Eve is more than ready to get out of her high heels and strap on her holster, to step into the role she was born to play: cop.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Go Dallas! You rock.

This is a very good Eve Dallas story. I didn't figure it out until near the end. The performance was very good and entertaining and the story was first rate. I love some of Peabodys sayings and some of them had me laugh out loud. I highly recommend.

love the new technology

I love the magic coat and stomping pink cowboy boots. Dallas and Peabody have evolved into an effective and entertaining team. Of course, the resident Irishman is always delicious.

Another winner!!!

If you could sum up Celebrity in Death in three words, what would they be?

Not the best.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I've read too many....I knew 'who done it' by the midway point.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Susan Ericksen has done the impossible. SHE is now the voice of the In Death characters that sounds in my ears when I read.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

They all are.

Comfortable in Death

?????? in Death??? is the series that started my love of series novels. Waiting for the next ???[Episode] in Death??? read by Susan Ericksen is like waiting for Christmas morning (even forgiving Ms. Ericksen???s less than stellar reading of Seduction in Death). Celebrity in Death was not a great installment by Robb???s high standards, and Eve summed it up at the end -- she closed a case without getting beat up, shot, stunned or even messing up her new clothes. While I still enjoy Eve???s ongoing struggle to grow up and build a family while putting murderers in cages, it turns out that I miss the messy bits.

Coupled with the missing action scenes, there are fewer of the petty but humorous personal conflicts we've seen in the past. There is a tentative peace with cranky butler Summerset and there are fewer skirmishes with obstructive citizens simply because Eve has matured and her interactions reflect her personal growth. There is never enough Roarke, but when he's present, he really shines -- especially when contrasted with the bland, slightly stupid facsimile in this book. Roarke is truly one of fiction's most appealing reformed rogues. It is also an entertaining twist to have an evil twin for the uber nice Peabody, exploring the series??? ongoing analysis of nature versus nurture. Weeding through all the suspects was fun since everyone wanted this victim dead.

Overall this plot was more cerebral and less action, but still a ???Comfortable in Death??? story with most of the characters I have come to love. The extreme highs and lows from some of the earlier books are missing, but this one stays comfortably entertaining and I will listen to it again like I have the others in the series. I???m already looking forward to the next installment.

loved it --

I love J D Robb!
This is the latest installment of the adventures of Eve Dallas and her "crew". this one was a little different - not as much action but more about each of the character. Eve is starting to enjoy having friends and learning to trust.

this is a great addition to the collection

Clever writing, but sort of slower in beginning

The unraveling of this plot was at times a bit tedious, midway it became more clever and near the end we discover The Who done its. Although less of a favorite in the series, I’m a loyal reader to them and continuing on. The narrator is my favorite in the audible lineup. She has truly made each character come to life so to speak

This woman knows how to write. Keeps on doing it!

What did you love best about Celebrity in Death?

I loved everything about this book. The pace was good the storyline was strong and Eve Dallas draws you in!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Celebrity in Death?

When Peabody and her man are sitting at the breakfast table and after the deep discussion about how they feel about one another, and Eve's call for them to come into work, they run off to the bedroom for a quicky!

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have heard them all to date and they just keep getting better and better!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It makes me laugh because these characters have sense of humor to make them seem more real.

Any additional comments?

Hurry up with the next release, I need my Eve Dallas fix!!!!
